Excessive backlash in rear diff - is there a way to adjust it?
Hi everyone,
I got an '09 G37X Sedan and my rear diff has developed way too much backlash. Every time I load or unload the diff at speed (its worst at 40mph-60mph) I get this terrible brrrrrr sound from the rear, which is from the gears in the diff knocking into each other. It sounds like I'm driving over closely spaced rumble strips on the highway.
1. Is there a way to "set" the backlash for our diffs? Apparently there is for most cars but I can't find anything specific to the G/Z.
2. If I decide to replace the diff, is it a very difficult job? I have my own tools, garage, jack etc; and I'm decently mechanically inclined but I've only ever done brakes/suspension/exhaust type of stuff by myself.
Thanks!

My suggestion is that AWD diffs are common and cheaper to find than MT or LSD ones. Usually average around $150-200.
Diff can be a 6/10 depending on your tools and skills. The hardest part will be taking the exhaust out and breaking the diff bolts and yoke bolts loose.
If you use certain length bars and straps to old the axles you might get away with leaving those installed however get ready to muscle a 50lbs pumpkin.
