Very controversial topic: Oil Additives

I know the HRs and VHRs are very peculiar when it comes to anything but oil because of their very thin gallery gasket, excluding the DE motor that thing can take a hit

This is a topic that really requires first hand experience from a vehicle owner to talk about.

The biggest question is, what do you use / can you use anything at all?

The only thing ive tried, was adding some seafoam 1-300 miles before an oil change, which has been done plenty of times before and is plenty safe being a petroleum based product.

I think the bigger question is, has anyone tried like liquimoly mos2, liquimoly ceratec, MMO, etc.

I think the whole oil additive concept is more of a consumer grade thing anyway, but I'm curious for those to share their thoughts. I have 170k miles and I take very good care of my motor, especially from the family it came from, and I was looking if there was any physical possible way to up that game at all.

Modern oil requires no additives, many additives do not even contain what the label claims and you just end up watering your oil down. No need for extra "cleaning" additives as modern oil has plenty of detergents.

Easiest and best thing is to buy a quality motor oil and keep it topped up, that's it.

Gotcha, nothing wrong with RP but if it's hard to find there are plenty of good oils out there that are easy to find, don't make it hard on your self

If you are using good oil then skip the seafoam imo, no point.

nothin wrong with it doe, its cheap and it does a little something.

i got a free 5 quart jug of oil, and ill be doing a premature oil change with the seafoam twice, once before the drain and another before the premature drain. from then on ill just do it every once n a while cause the RP HMX has really good detergents and dispersants

In the oil it really doesn't do anything Seafoam is made of pale oil, IPA and Naphtha. The boiling point of IPA and naphtha is lower than our cars operating temp (200-210F) so it's basically evaporating away on your first drive.

interesting, but i can imagine they cant make false claims. ive noticed differences running the seafoam before an oil change, differences in how the car like starts and runs, so idk. ive also noticed what looks like an extended drain when doing the change. to each their own ig

Like I mentioned before most additives dont do what they say. I always say at the end of the day do what makes you feel better as that's all that matters.
