Any tips on putting transmission back into engine?
Hello
doing a clutch job myself but ffs I cannot get the transmission back mated to the engine. I pre checked the new clutch disc and pilot bearing and yes they both fit onto the transmission input shaft/splines. I’m pretty sure it’s aligned because the clutch alignment tool fits inside. I’m on the ground doing this and literally it’s taking me the longest amount of time. On the home stretch here, just the easy parts left like the driveshaft/exhaust/bleed/shifter but holy shift I’m on the verge to give up with this **** not lining up and tow it to the dealer lol.
Sometimes you have to clock the trans a little. I remember one time I was trying to fight a transmission back in and tried for over an hour. I finally took a quick break, walked back out and it slid right on. Also might need to put the trans into neutral.
As Stealthee mentioned it may need to be clocked.
I was wasn't able to get mine in until I started to rotate it back and forth. It wouldn't slide but I was able to walk it in a little more than have way. Had to finish mating it with the transmission bolts.
Definitely try clocking the gearbox. It is just a matter of getting the input shaft splines lined up with the clutch disc. Going to have to do this soon on my old beater pickup.

Rotating the gearbox back and forth along its "centerline" until the input shaft splines line up with the clutch disc splines. Once everything lines up it should slide right on.
