Welded diff on awd
Welded diff on awd
First I want to say I have no intentions of doing this, I'm just curious. I had posted a comment on a youtube video about doing the awd to rwd by pulling the fuses and told them it only does one wheel peels. Someone said weld the differential. I'm curious what exactly that do with awd system, my friend said it would turn it into more of a drift car around corners.

Now on the AWD it would put throw it off and disengage the AWD leaving you on RWD and hoping everytime you turn.
A LSD would be what you would want. Issue here is LSD differentials come with a higher final drive than the AWD so you would have to match the ratio in the front to obtain the results you want.
You can still drift a G on a open diff, it just wont be as controllable as the LSD
I am familiar with LSD, my friend has one on a front wheel drive jetta, he said that's what got us home when he broke the axle one day. It sends the same amount of power to both wheels is how he explained it to me. I've heard a welded diff is kind of a redneck way of doing it, haven't looked into it much.

He broke the axle doing a burnout, we're both young and stupid. He's running a turbo setup pushing about 500whp, he left the axles weak so if something broke it would be them instead of the transmission or the engine. A lot cheaper to replace.
