G37S 4WAS power steering pump interchange (pics)

Part of my goals during the experience of this car is to document fixes (pictures extensive). As these cars go into it's 12th year of production things start to break down, this means the car moves into a more affordable market.
We can all agree the V36 chassis is one Infinitis back bone, with it's chassis going on almost 10 year production, many trims were offered which is great until you find yourself owning a rare trim and things break.

The car is a 2010 G37s sedan anniversary edition with 4was. As exotic as this car was upon production it was owned by irresponsible owners who slowly neglected the car.

Fast forward into my ownership and cataloging a parts list I find the rack and pinion is toast. Upon research I find part numbers are different for 4was and all places listed trim differences.
Since it's simple to go out of budget fixing V36s I decided to do additional research and found that mounting locations to the rack are the same but research also noted the Sports rack includes a quicker turning ratio, this rack is $400
Long story short I found the Sports/4was/base rack and pinions are exactly the same, where is the change? Tie rods. You see brand new racks list IT as an assembly that comes with tie-rods. An used 40k mile OEM base rack was $70
After comparing tie-rods I discovered Sports/4was INNER TIE-RODS are the magic part that turns a base rack into a SPORTS QUICK STEERING rack.

Bitter-sweet moment as it required weeks of research just for it to fit my budget, however I was able to find invaluable info that will help others in the future.

Why do I post this? This experience helped me with the power-steering pump as I discovered it started leaking and needed replacing.

Into research I go, what do I find 4was use a different pump &#^$%. ranging from $250-$500.
Infiniti/Nissan tend to recycle most of their parts due to production costs, it can be difficult to figure this out because part numbers dont help.
You see any change/supercedding/ update will change the number and the dealer is no help when it comes to figuring this out.

Jk01a is the Sports/4WAS pump
Jk200/a is the base pump

I bought a used pump $100 that was supposed to be 4was and it was not, nobody in my area carried an affordable one and just because it's coming from a G37 I refuse to pay G37 taxes over a mere power steering pump.
Off I go again into research, I decided to search for EVERY Infiniti Power-steering pump ever made I mean only 16 models to check.
I find that the QX56 pump looks oddly familiar. Upon research the TITAN/ARMADA/QX56 share the same pump.
Looking at more of these I find the TITAN pump is the closest one visually.
So I took a gamble, $45 later I used my bracket and my pulley and TA - ****ING - DA.

Lets face it the power-steering system is one of the most over looked systems in vehicles, it's a system that repels RTV and doesnt like to be messed with. In these cars replacements for these systems are $800 brand new with few or no options for cheaper until now.
$130 for a rack/pump and brand new fluid

Enjoy.

Bull, thanks for the write-up. When fixing my water pump, i've noticed my p/s pump had a leak. Appears to be coming from this hole on the left of the reservoir suction line. Is this like a weeping hole on the water pump? lol

Care to show more pictures? There should'nt be a hole in that location unless it's an aftermarket pump it's possible a bolt was put through and broke through the pump body.
Another possibility is that this is a sports pump with base pump attachments.

See below. I've circled the hole on the stock brand new pump below. I, too, thought that someone was there before me and put the wrong bracket on it, but this appears to be some kind of a "feature" on these.

Just taking a stab in the dark, but being that these pumps are used on practically all Nissan models, is it possible the hose on some models gets rotated 180º and the retaining bolt uses that location? Like this:

Again, just venturing a guess. Either way, there is no "weep hole" for the PS pump. If fluid is leaking from that spot, then there is a internal failure to the pump.

Do you have a similar sized bolt that will fit? Temporarily, you could thread a bolt in there and have it act as a plug. Not a fancy fix, but it should suffice in a pinch until you get a replacement pump.

what do you mean by "maxed out bolt"?

if you look at the picture of the brand new pump i've posted, it also has the same uncovered hole. i don't think it's even threaded, but i'll take another look at it today.

That should be a blind hole or a threaded for maybe other chassis.
If its coming out of this hole it means someone tried using this hole and tightened the bolt past the end of the hole which opens the hole into the pump body.

confirmed it's not threaded. went ahead and plugged it up with some epoxy putty. new (to me) pump on the way and should be here by the weekend ($25 shipped 70k). i also scored a 70k rack for a '12 sedan for $70 shipped (sans tie rods) off ebay also. i found your thread where you said all the V36 racks are basically the same except for the different tie rod ends. we'll see when she gets here. thanks again!

Make sure you clean the hole well and epoxy will do it. It is very possible that this leak is not really coming from this hole but from the gasket of the return neck and making it look like it's the hole.

On the rack make sure your solenoid connector is in good condition and that's the same as your car.

There is a label on the rack with an OEM part number, Make sure you take a picture of both racks label so we can have more info from other interchanges since because these racks come with rods it changes the whole part number.

yeah, you were right, it was leaking from the suction pipe's o-ring. little bastard was hard to buy, as no one had it around town. part# 49162-6C900
o-ring disintegrated and broke apart when taking it off...

The diagrams list 3 different images for racks for the V36

If you pay attention to the diagrams you'll see in the bare rack the part numbers are the same, only one that changes shape and number is the AWD one
