7AT - draining all the fluid out
Hi all, yesterday was the first time I drained and refilled the auto trans in my 12' X sedan.
Long story short, I was a sucker that accepted the service manual showing no requirement to change it. I have been changing the fluids in the diffs and transfer case.
But I finally decided to do it anyway. The car has 93000 miles and for the most part drives/shifts ok, so I'm not hoping the change will fix anything.
I refilled with Matic S. I believe the pan only holds half or a little more of all the fluid.
After putting in the new, cycling it for 15 mins or so, the fluid only looks marginally better than the original. Still dark brown, not black and not burnt smelling.
So my question is, because I'm considering doing it again...
After draining the pan and leaving the plug out, can the car be started and ran for say 10-15 secs or so, to get the remaining fluid in the trans to flow into the pan do be able to do a full drain and refill? Will that short amount of time do damage, and/or will the remaining fluid even run to the pan like I'm thinking it might.
Thanks,
Mike
