Transmission shifting hard and lack of power

Bought in 2015, 2013 sedan 60,000 miles now. Transmission shifts hard into 4th in drive or manual shift. Doesn’t want to shift in manual sometimes in varying gears till a couple of seconds after I shift. Did someone just drive the heck out of it and trade it in? A lease? I’ve known people who didn’t care about it when they were about to get rid of one and just drove it real hard and maybe did some damage. ALSO on a cold start it’s really noisy for a few seconds to a minute and then quietens down to a purr. Valves? Gets on my nerves. I’ve heard others do the same and have to wonder. We had a NEW 04 g35x before this one and it never did any of the things I’ve mentioned. That car was the best all around car I’ve ever owned. It ran like it had Big Chief’s turbo in it. The 37, not nearly as responsive. Maybe I’ve got clogged injectors or it’s just time for an overall tuneup. Anybody got ideas or facts to help explain any of this?

I’ll see if they recommend that before I say anything. Gotta keep them dealers honest. Plus they rape us anyway but at least we get a new loaner to drive and be tempted with. Lol. I do a lot of repairs to all my vehicles myself but sometimes a shop seems to be the way to go and the dealer keeps records of what’s been done and it’s easier to deal with them on returns for bad work. I bought an extended warranty so we’ll see how that works out.

Harsh shifting is normal, happens on my 2011, and 2013 G37. It’s not a dual clutch and the transmission is slow when shifting, you can get the transmission software updated but some had better luck than others and it does reduce a bit of the harsh shifting.

If the throttle bodies haven't been cleaned within your ownership.. I'd definitely have those cleaned as well.

I agree w the advice about the Trans drain and fill and differential d&f. Good preventative mileage time to do both. The differential fluid change is ridiculously easy on these cars if you have a rwd one.

Good thought. I have wondered if somebody just drove the crap out of it
and traded it or maybe a lease. Oh well we’ll get it done and see. It’s on downshifting also. 5th to 4th is a full second delay and then a hard grab then 4th to 3rd at 30mph grabs like 2nd with high rev then 2nd is ok, I never shift to 1st. Lol

Any ideas on the noise? It’s not like lack of oil or anything like that. It’s more like valves or like heat risers in my old 70 Torino. Man I’d love to have that one back!

If it goes away within 15 - 30 seconds of startup, it might be the VVEL system sorting itself out.

Can you post a video with sound?
