Changing Starter on 08 G37 Coupe

My Coupe was turning over slower and slower until it finally quit turning over at all. It would click but not turn over and gave me the Service Engine Soon alarm that stayed on even after I cleared the P0615 Starter Relay code in the ECU memory. Battery was OK so I decided to change the starter, found a good one on EBay and had at it. Contrary to what the shop manual says, you can finesse it out without having to disconnect the steering shaft, drop the subframe, and jack up the motor. It ain't easy but it can be done. Turns out the solenoid was still good but the starter motor itself was completely worn out and would'nt turn at all. It turns over waay faster and smoother now. Just thought I'd post this in case someone else is thinking about doing this repair.

How many miles were on the car? I have 130K on mine the starter still seems to be working quite well. But it's definitely something I want to change before it goes out.

83K, but I bought the car used so I don't know much of its history. It has always cranked kinda slow but I didn't know if that was normal or not. It got to a point where it would turn over 4 or 5 times then shut off without starting then it stopped turning over at all and threw the Service Engine Soon alarm. I took out the starter and tested it, solenoid was OK but the motor was dead as a doornail.

I bought one off EBay from LKQ for $90 shipped. It came from a 2014 Q60 with 14,788 miles on it and works like a new one.

Yeah that's the thing I want parts that I don't have to worry about failing and using a warranty. My original OEM starter has lasted 130k miles, so sticking with that.

That's abso-frickin-lutely outrageous. You can get a BRAND NEW starter from Infiniti for $300!

Post a link. Cheapest I could find is $341.28 (without shipping) from infinitipartsdealer.com and that includes the core charge.

You can get one from LKQ with under 20k miles on it for under $100.

Quoted as of 28 July 2019.
I would never pay over $400 for a remanufactured starter, especially from those crap chain stores. Just my opinion....

Yeah found that one. Still not $300. After shipping/core charge/returning core and paying for shipping it back it's still going to be around $340-$350.

LKQ it is.
