09 g37 coupe wont starts

Having issues with my 2009 coupe(AT) that will not start. The other day I realized that my right headlight was out, and so I ordered a new set of bulbs to replace both. The next morning I got into my car and noticed that there was a rapid clicking noise(before I had started car), but then it tried to start it and the car wouldn't start and the noise went away. Tried to jump start with cables, but that didn't seem to work power wouldn't turn on, not sure if the issue was with the cables. So I went on a vacation and the car sat. Just got back and tried to use an external battery jump and this is what happens;
  • Power turns on in the car(lights, radio, dash, etc)
  • When pressing ignition there will be a few rapid clicks and then the power will shut off. The first time I tried with the batter pack it was many >5 rapid clicks and then shut off.
  • After a bit the car drained the external battery pack and the car had no power

Ive had a few issue in the past with the starter, where it would take a few tries. But it would be very very rare.

Any thoughts on what might be the problem?

I would double check the wiring connections at the starter for tightness/corrosion/etc. More than likely the starter/solenoid is shot, especially since you had issues with it in the past.

Also, the battery is pretty new less than a year old.

The last time I just tried with the battery pack fully charged, there was a different sound which sounded like the engine cranking once. I was able to get it to do that twice, but then it went back to just clicking..

Based on age and new battery, check the starter. The clicks you hear is the starter relay. Careful not to burn the relay out with continuous attempts to start.

Turns out the battery was just really really dead.... charging it up while outside of the car solved the problem.
