A/C Compressor replacement
A/C Compressor replacement
My 2009 G37 Sedan's A/C Compressor just went out unfortunately, and the mechanic is charging $1,400 for the replacement including a 2 year warranty. However, I am probably not keeping the car for more than another year, (I'm at 150K miles) and do not need a super long lasting solution, so I'm thinking either an aftermarket compressor or a used OEM compressor. What do you guys think would be a better solution, a new aftermarket compressor like this or a used OEM compressor like this? Thanks for the help.
The estimate for $1400 seems way high. I would get a second estimate as the whole job is pretty easy. It is just a matter of:
1) recovering the refrigerant,
2) swapping out the compressor,
3) evacuating the system (deep vacuum) and,
4) charging with refrigerant.
It is a slightly time consuming project, but not at all labor intensive.
That said, if you are definitely going to be getting rid of the car I would go used. Just get one from a reputable seller.
That's just my thought.
