Idler pulley bolt sheared

So just leaving my house the other day and I hear a nice thump from the engine compartment. I'm able to get back to the house to find the larger pulley (nearest to the compressor) laying on the lower engine cover. It looks like the bolt sheared off. I would like to do this myself, but I'm going to need the front bumper and radiator out to be able to access the area. How complicated is it to remove the radiator on the G? It seems that the FSM is gone, would anyone have the R&R instructions for the radiator? I'm also wondering if I would be able to just move the radiator out of the way enough without disconnecting the transmission cooler lines, that way I wouldn't have to worry about losing fluid or having to bleed it.

Thanks,

John

Okay, sorry for the gap in update. I found that the smooth pulley bolt did not shear, but unthreaded. This is the pulley between the crank and the compressor. I ordered a new smooth pulley and a belt. The pulley that they sent (and the only one I could find on RockAuto, Orielly's, and Autozone) is the correct pulley but with a 10mm bolt that goes on the lower pulley bolt hole. Unfortunately, this makes the standard 80" belt about 2 inches or so too short. The upper pulley with what looks like a 12mm bolt is not listed anywhere. I guess I'll have to get it from the stealership, but it's special order and I don't want to order the wrong part since I'll get charged for it regardless. Does anyone happen to have a part number for this pulley? There are no numbers on the pulley that's on there.

Thanks

It stuns me how people don't read. I can't count how many times I've posted the discountinfinitiparts.com web site.

Anyway, https://www.discountinfinitiparts.co...ts-and-pulleys

Bookmark the site, it is very handy.

I appreciate the help, but I have looked here and nothing tells me whether either is grooved or smooth. And aince only 2 are listed it is assumed that the one listed as upper is grooved and the lower is smooth. But nothing tells me what bolt sise is used so I can't tell if it's the right part the the same location.

Discountinfinitiparts.com is your friend. Literally, just pop them a email explaining what you need and Sid, the parts manager, will get you sorted.

Unlike other internet parts outlets, here there is a real person, at a real dealership, willing to help.

for getting a look at actual parts, try punching the model numbers for both into a google image search and on ebay too....especially on ebay most parts are put on the site by wrecking yards and they post very detailed pics of the actual parts...if you post up the model numbers you;ve narrowed it down to you may get some more help on here with the ebay/google image searches too.

good luck!

If you haven't already purchased them, I should be able to get to you the part number for the smooth (larger) pulley - I recently replaced mine as it fell off as well. The rest of the idlers should be grooved.

As for access, you only need to pull the coolant overflow tank. After that, you should be able to reach all of the idlers and accessories with a skinny enough ratchet.

I too ran into the same bolt issue. I just ended up removing the bolt, spacer, and washer and using the bolt and washer from the original (OEM) pulley. Did the original bolt get messed up?

Here are a couple of my posts about the same issue:

Thanks, that's what we did at the dealer to make sure it was the same part. It was spendy, but it's the right part now.

Yeah, the bolt got seized inside the bearing.

Thanks for the help. I don't know if I need to make a new post, but the airbag light keeps blinking since everything got put back together. I'm just wondering if the harness is in a position where it could have been affected by the belt or pulley. I haven't tried the convoluted reset thing yet, but that's next on the list.
