Coolant disappearing

Hello, forum

I recently got my top coolant hose and clamps done. Since then my coolant has been draining rather quickly. I keep having to refill it. I got the work done at CARMAX. Was this my first mistake? Should I take it back and complain or go to a new mechanic?

Best,
Booshiba

I'd give them a chance to fix it.

What does it mean when you say you had the clamps done?

There was a time some years ago when I was using a stainless steel T-Bolt clamp on the upper rad hose. After a while, it started leaking, and I went back to OEM. And then a few years ago I tried the Phase2Motortrend clamps, and couldn't be happier with them.

But seriously, Banshee, look into P2M hose clamps.

Thanks all. I'll look in to those clamps. They do repair cars. And by clamps I only mean the 2 clamps involved with the top rad. hose.

I'll see what they charge for that. I don't think the coolant is coming from the hose or clamps they did. It just looks like a big mess under the hood and there is dried coolant everywhere around the expansion tank. I mentioned it last time and they said it was normal.

you can put teflon tape on the coolant res to prevent the leak. or buy a new cap . if thats what you were talking about. i did this to my moms rogue and there was no more dried coolant around the res cap

not scientifically sure but im sure its a mixture of heat, steam, boiling, and cap not sealing so it seeps through where it can from pressure. but it shouldnt be to the point of you having to keep refilling.

what can also cause it to come out the reservoir is a blown head gasket on the exhaust side. Hot gases build in the coolant system and force out the top.

The reservoir cap shouldn't see more than a couple of pounds of pressure, if that. The pressure cap should prevent any pressure from reaching the reservoir. If the reservoir is pressurizing, replace the pressure cap. If that doesn't fix it, you have more expensive problems.

Do you know if the leak is on the side of your engine block on the driver side? if so, it may be your water pump that may be on it's way out.
