It was the starter. Had a new (reman) starter installed two days ago. And now the car starts immediately every single time.

I guess these things happen. Still, only 40k miles on it.

All those short trips really kill the starter Glad you got it fixed. You do it yourself or shop? If latter, I bet towing was a stressful experience?

Short trips, LOL, Lego.

Took it to my mechanic. Curiously, after sitting and not starting at all throughout August, it started right up the morning I was all ready to pop the clutch, and failing that, call for a flatbed. So I got real lucky there.
