Hi all
Bad timing! I am selling my 2009 G37s 6MT and went to get the smog. CEL went on with a code P0300. I am working on checking the coils, etc. Worse problem though is when I drove it last, it went into limp mode with a code P0524 Low Oil Pressure. Reading a ton of threads, I am afraid its the rear gallery seal behind the timing cover. I took to Infiniti and they confirmed a low oil pressure (8psi at idle, 35 at 2.5k rpms). No other problems found yet. They are recommending replacing the rear timing cover that has the revised gaskets at a cost of nearly $4,500. I am on the fence and seeing if I can find someone to replace the gaskets only. It saves a ton of labor.

Questions. Any worries about replacing the just the gasket versus the whole plate? Also, I am considering having the work done at a local reputable shop.

Does anyone have any recommended repair shops in the Bay Area, CA?

Update: Took my car into a local shop that has done this work before. Their prior experience (before revised gaskets) was to use RTV sealants. After several failed repairs, they've reverted back to replacing the back timing cover. I showed them the CZ Motorsports replacement gasket and they were intrigued. They will give me a recommendation by tomorrow.

Anyone have experience with the CZ Gaskets? Any comments about them?

 

Order a 2012+ gasket from the dealer. Nissan changed the material and those engines with it seem immune from this design faux pas.

 

 

According to InfinitiParts USA, there is a replacement gasket. I assume that they've replaced with a new style that prevents this issue.

 

Update. I just heard back from the new shop. They are recommending also replacing the full cover. They are a great bunch of guys and I trust them, but was hoping they would be willing to replace just the gaskets with the revised or the CZ version. I completely understand their part, it is their reputation. They've been burned in the past with RTV repairs and the old style gaskets repairs. They do not trust this new gasket.

So I feel like I am back to square one. This place is slightly cheaper than Infiniti but it is sill a big cost to swallow. Do I keep shopping it around or do I bite the bullet and get it done?

 

I can't see how they couldn't trust the Infiniti gasket. I also don't understand why they want to replace the cover. I haven't read anyone noting warpage or other failure other than the gasket.

 

Same here. They do not want to be liable if it does leak. They have 3 yr/36 mo warranty on parts and labor for repairs, which is great. I just cannot swallow the price of this. Making me insane since I was just selling it. I would try and repair myself. I've done cams etc. But this one seems really involved.

I think I will see if I can work a deal with the shop on the labor and I can source the parts. Unless someone has someone in the Bay Area that is willing to do the gasket replacement!

 

Update. Just got the car back. Since I am selling the car and want to make sure the next owner has no issues with this, I did the full rear cover replacement. Drove it home and it is driving great! Going to miss it.

 

What was the total cost for this job?

 

I ended up working it out to be $3550 . Dealer wanted $4500 and discounted it to $4100. This place used all OEM parts and have done several. He showed memthe old cover and where the gasket blew out. They were great plus a 36k mile 3 year warranty. At least the new future owner of my car won't have to worry about it.

​​​​​Where did you get you get your work done in the Bay Area? I think I might be having the same issue, P0524 code. And car surging at 2,500 RPM. I want to find a mechanic that has done it before!

 

 

I understand nissan does not sell just the gasket. Have to buy the cover too.

No one has used the CZP gaskets?
