09 g37x(auto) is this normal transmission behavior? (High gear low speed)

Hey guys, have a 2009 g37x with 126k. Have had the car for around 3 years and cant remember if this normal or not. It doesnt seem normal to me. I have read countless forums and have not really found too much info on what I am experiencing. So when I am barley accelerating from a stop to around 25 to 30mph (residential or city driving) I noticed that more often the car goes into the highest gear (at least I think). The car will be at 1000 rpms as I am lightly on the throttle cruising. If I step on the gas the rpms jump and the car shifts fine but the second I take my foot off the gas, the rpms drop back to 1000. It seems like the torque converter is locking too early and my car is in overdrive too early. When this happens I will put the car into manual mode and downshift, when downshifting, the car goes to 6, the, to 5 to 4 very quickly. I am not sure if the car is in 7th gear or 6th gear when this happens . Any input would be great.

I think there is something wrong. I was just in manual mode in 3rd gear at 2k rpms cruising slow and I wasn't able to shift into 4th, so I put the car in d and it seemed like it shifted. I have no idea what is wrong. Sometimes when the car diwnsgifys at a low rpm, the rpms will dip under 1k then go back up. Not sure what gear.

The transmission is smarter than you. You have no reason to be in 4th at low rpm going slow. 4th is higher speeds. The trans will override you in situations like that. It happens to me if I try to go into 2nd going too slow it beeps at me letting me know dude your in manual mode quit being a puzzy and beat me up

lol that's what I figured. So it is normal for the trans to upshift to a higher gear in drive? For example, I was unable to shift into 4th at my speed in manual mode, but if the car was in d it would have upshifted? Sometimes I will be cruising 25mph at 1000 rpms which concerns me. Also I notice when downshifting when the rpms are low, sometimes on the downshift(not sure what gear) the rpms will dip below 1k? They will instantly jump back up. Thanks for the quick reply.

Those of us that can't put up with this programmed nonsense get manual cars (you know those with 3 pedals). Stay in 4th at 7000K rpm for as long as you want.

I have had a type R , 3 s2000, and 350z nismo. This is my first non manual sports car and it's not that bad. That said it' not near as fun as my manuals. That said it's plenty fun and powerful enough to get into trouble...
