Engine hesitation (stall) / no codes
Engine hesitation (stall) / no codes
This past Sunday I was driving 75 mph, when I attempted to pass a car. When I put the throttle down, the car hesitated/stalled, I immediately dropped down to 5th gear and the car again accelerated. I drove for another 2 or 3 miles and the car hesitated again, but this time it immediately recovered without me having time to do anything. I brought it to the Infiniti dealer on Monday, they didn't find anything except that I had a valve cover gasket seeping. Nothing to explain the hesitation. Today I decided to do my yearly cleaning of my K&N filters and I found a leaf in one of the air boxes along with several small pieces of (mostly leaf pieces) debris in the filters. I vacuumed out the air boxes and cleaned the filters. Since many have mentioned the MAFS as being a cause of stall issues w/o code, I wonder if this is what caused my hesitation. Could this be the problem?
You should keep an eye on your boxes more often than that. I still have paper filters, but I pull them out every time I clean the car and shake any debris. The factory filters are so easy to take out.
You should look to clean the intake tubes, the MAF and the Throttle Bodies.

Thanks EZ, but my G is not a DD. I only put 3 -5K miles on it a year, so that's why I don't check the filter but once a year. This is the time of year that leaves are falling and that's how I picked up the debris. I cleaned my TB's about 10K miles ago, they were in fairly good shape, but thanks to this forum I was able to do the job. I haven't done the MAFS, I saw the utube video talking about the special MAF cleaner. I'll pull them tomorrow and buy a can of cleaner. If small debris hit my MAFS could it have caused a hesitation and not produced a code?
