Radiator/Condenser Fans Shot!
Radiator/Condenser Fans Shot!
I have diagnosed that both of my radiator/condenser fan motors have dropped dead. Cheapest I have found for new OEM is $225. each, but I found a whole fan assembly (used) from a 2016 370Z from eBay for $150 that I ordered (exact same part #'s).
Symptoms: 2008 Coupe, 102K miles, exhibited signs of getting hot (increased idle, temp gauge pegged HOT) while sitting in the bank drive thru. Car was in neutral with A/C off. NO engine mods except for the R2C intakes. Once I started moving again the temp gauge dropped to normal range.
Diagnosis: I ran the Troubleshooting Checklist in the FSM (IPDM/er Active Test, PWC relay, Fan Control Module, coolant, thermostat, etc) and the end result was that the fan motors are shot. When 12VDC is applied to each fan they do not turn. However, if I give them a small nudge by hand they will start to spin, but even a hamster could spin them much faster. It is obvious the fan motors gave up the ghost.
My question is, has anyone had BOTH of their radiator fans kick the bucket at relatively the same time or is my situation just a fluke? And also, if anyone here has replaced them, if you have any tips or pointers about the process would be greatly appreciated!

"...extra money (not a lot) for new?"
Let's see: $450-500 for two (2) fan motors ($225.EACH at discountinfinitiparts (or $349.52 at parts.infinitiusa.com AND parts.nissanusa.com (p/n 21487-JK60E and JK61A))); plus time to remove fan assembly from car, disassemble and install new motors, re-install fan assembly, vs.
$150 for a practically new (2016) COMPLETE fan assembly; and time to just swap out the assembly.
By my math I save at least $300. and, more importantly for me, a few hours of time. For a 10 year old car that is driven barely 2-3x a month, I can deal with used fan motors that are practically brand new OEM. While $300 might not be a lot of money to some, I rather that money be in my pocket than in Nissan's. Besides, I will be the first to admit that I am a cheap old bast@rd.
For the record, even if I had went aftermarket, places like rockauto, summit racing, and the chain stores, mainly sell the complete assembly ranging in price from $120-$500 from brands like TYC, Dorman, and God knows who else and I have no interest to even consider aftermarket performance options.
