I drive a 2009 G37S manual, with about 92k miles.
So about a month ago I have gotten the P0524 code on my check engine light, which reads for low oil pressure and it put me in limp mode. I brought it to a Nissan dealership because the Infiniti one is out of town. They diagnosed it and cleared it and said everything was fine. Now it popped up two more times. The second time I didn't have any time to drop off the car since it's my only car. The third time I just brought it in today. They did an oil pressure test and I was told it's reading proper oil pressure. I am so lost. I know the culprit could could be the rear timing cover gasket (I think). I know that's a faulty gasket on the earlier G's. Only thing is, the stealership wants to charge me $1,600 in labor just to see if that's the problem or not. 😧 All thought, opinions and advice welcomed!

 

the vvel actuators can also cause that code. i had my gasket replaced under warranty only to have to come back the next week for the same code as the VVEL actuator that was oil starved by the leaking gallery had also failed. no other codes?

 

Nope, no other codes just that one.

 

i had P0524 when my timing cover gasket was leaking. this caused low oil pressure to trigger limp mode. i also had another code (P0021 maybe?) at the same time. my re+re was under warranty, but it is a relatively labour-intensive job. ~$1600 sounds about right.

 

The thing is though, I DON'T have low oil pressure. I got an oil pressure test ran and everything came out good.

ABG, what were your oil pressure readings at idle and under load?

 

12 PSI at idle. 48 PSI at 2,000 RPMs.

 

oil pressure per the FSM is supposed to be >14psi idle and >43psi at 2000rpm.

when i had a gasket leak mine was 14 and 40

 

Well, im showing fine @ 2,000 RPMs. And only 2 PSI off at idle.. so would this still be a gasket leak? Which gasket exactly?

 

like i said, i wasn't far off from the spec when mine was leaking. You could always wait. It wont get better

The factory spec for oil pressure is measured with the oil at 80 deg C.
If you don't know the oil temp, you can't trust your pressure readings.

Just for reference, my 81,000 mile G37 has 24 PSI @ 80C at idle and 58 PSI @ 2,000 RPM.

 

That's about in line w/ my G at 90k miles.

 

Getting the same code on my 09 G37s 6mt. It always happens at idle. Make any progress abg?
