2009 7AT Sputtering at 2500rpm

My 2009 G37x 7AT with about 133k miles has started bucking when it hit 2500rpm as if it hit a rev limiter. The SES light came on. I learned how to clear it. When I did the car drove as normal. I checked the air filters. They needed replacing so I did so. The light came on again, after about 20-30 miles. Have any of you experienced this before? More importantly, any suggestions for a permanent fix?

Get the code read. Could be the dreaded gasket failure. If so prepare you wallet.

Oh boy. I hope not! Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. Yesterday I ordered an OBD II diagnostic tool from Amazon. Should arrive by the weekend. Do you know what code I should look for if that's the issue?

Well if you got that nice bluetooth OBDII reader it will tell you exactly what it is. Get the Torque OBD app (Im assuming you have android?) And it will tell you exactly what is wrong.

edit: I just reread. Did you get a standalone obdii reader or a phone-app based one? the app based ones are better.

Yes, that's what I ordered. Yes, I have an Android phone. Thanks for the tip on which app to install. I was wondering that. Right now the code is cleared, so I'll have to wait for it to pop up again. It popped up around 20-30 miles, but I drove about that much today with no issues. We'll see. Whenever it pops up, I'll use the code reader and see what it says. I appreciate the replies!
