Stillen Gen 3 Intakes with a DEI reflect a Gold wrap
I was wondering if it would help to wrap the tubes to reflect some of the heat inside the engine bay. Is this an overkill or worth getting it done
I am receiving my intake Tomorrow and would like to wrap it before the install if this is going to help me in a long run.
I have also read about how the intake tube messing up the AC lines and how it rattles and scratches against the metal in the engine bay. Is it worth to wrap this sucker instead of adding padding.. I think the padding will look really nasty inside the engine bay
Please help advise if any of you have any opinion or experience with this application.
So it's not going to mess with my MAF sensors right? I was just worried about all the heat trapped inside the tube may fry the sensors lol . Still doing more research but I personally think it should work and it would also help with the longevity
Damn BTW do you have a motordyne m370 intake manifold or is it factory? I can't even tell. and what are those 2 filters by your radiator cover? hahhaha very interesting
Well in theory it should help. However in reality probably doesn't do anything for you.
In fact, the CAI doesn't do much if anything for you. I would save yourself the money unless you are interested in the sound change. No matter what the vendors are claiming, the HP increase is minimal at best. Maybe use the money for resonated cats instead.
Yep I'm gonna get the cats later but as of right now got the intakes installed
Couldn't wait for the heat wrap because I was too stoked to install these
The installation was not that hard but still took me 3 hours to complete. I was just moving too slow and taking my time ...didn't wanted to rush but yeah it was worth it...cant really test it because it's pouring down right now..hopefully tomorrow
Looks really nice. I was hoping to install these Tonight but I guess Ill wait and order my wrap first.
What kind of strut bar is that? Did you got it painted - I am diggin it!!! Also it looks more RAW without the engine cover.
Cusco Strut bar that I plastidipped.

I did have the m370 manifold but i swapped back to oem to have the upper and lower ported. The two filters are the top of my oil catch can.

Cold air intakes does yield power. you'll yield more with removing the CATS.
I felt a major difference - Maybe it's a placebo effect but I can feel it. It definitely sounds powerful, like I would expect it to be. Nothing crazy. Car is tail happy now so gotta look into sticky tires for winter.
QuestioN/CONCERN: Forgot to protect the AC lines from the intake tube, right now they are all in contact with one another. Should I be worried? Should I slip in some sort of gasket where they r making a contact? If anyone knows - Please share
First off, these guys never installed an actual Cold Air Intake. They installed some accordion dryer type hose attached to a POS Ebay air filter. They didn't even use an actual Dyno verified/proven CAI that was designed and tested to increase power.
Secondly, your video even shows that they gained between 3 - 5 HP with their garbage homemade "cold air intake".
Thirdly, there are countless Dynos of before and after that show and prove real gains in HP and Torque using legit cold air intakes. Am I saying it is a huge gain? Of course not. That is not realistic.
And finally, Did these guys Tune the vehicle after the install? No, they didn't. After an increase in air flow, a tune will give your car the best air/fuel ratio, for maximum power gains.
A couple guys making a homemade intake from a piece of garbage air filter just doesn't cut it when it comes to proving the legitimacy of true cold air intakes.
It doesn't much matter what kind of filter and or pipe you use for CAI. There are only two ways an NA engine can make more HP using air.
One: if more air is supplied to the engine
&
two: if the air temperature is lowered: (more dense air)
a cheap ebay filter isn't going to restrict the airflow enough to be a problem.
Also it doesn't matter if you use a 6" pipe for the intake you really can't add any more air over the stock air box anyway. There are two restrictions, one the throttle body and two the cylinder. You can't force 4,5, or 6" worth of air through a 3" throttle body. And the cylinder can only take a certain volume of air as well. Using better/bigger pipes won't matter. Your cylinder can't be filled with more air to make more horsepower unless you introduce more "pressurised air" by either a turbo or supercharger.
Colder/dense air does allow for some extra HP, but the stock air boxes are fairly well designed anyway, plus most are near the front grill, technically sucking air that is what you would get with CAI. From what I have been reading, for every 10 deg. you gain approx 1 HP. How much do you really think you can lower the temp using CAI over a well designed stock box.????? 10-30 deg? maybe.
The other problem is that most CAI are made of metal and/or aluminum which heats up and heats up the air before it reaches the engine. Therefore, you really wouldn't be lowering the temp too much either way.
Yes, you can gain a couple of HP in the upper range of the rpms. So between 6500-7000 you could be gaining 2 HP, but you will be losing some in the lower range. The extra 2 HP at 6500-7000 isn't really worth the investment.
Yes a tune can give you a couple of more HP but at that point you are looking at over $1000 to gain what 5HP maybe 10HP if you are lucky over a very narrow part of the rpms.
Also you don't need to get a tune to get the best fuel/air fuel ratio. That is already done by the stock ECU. The perfect ratio is 14.7:1 and already correctly done by the ECU. There isn't too much to gain by using a tune to change that...
If you have all the bolt ons and get a tune than a nice HP increase could be achieved but just the CAI very little can be gained.
Either way, the HP isn't a benefit I would be looking at, however, I do like how the CAI makes the engine sound - and that alone is good enough reason for me.
^^ haha - One step at a time bro - It will all add up once everything is installed. (Bolt ons)
Not going to go crazy with a supercharger or Turbo but whatever I can do to gain more horsepower, I will do it LOL. Not going to lie but I have seen some crazy numbers with this set up and the engine sounds more alive now. I think it was worth the investment.
