My Transmission is acting up!!!

Hello all,

Im having some issues with my transmission and was hoping you guys could give me some advice. First off, its a 2009 G37 coupe 7at. Its got 128k miles. I bought it 3 months ago. It drove great when I initially test drove it. Clean title, car fax show services (no transmission services) but consistent oil changes. I live in Texas.

Heres the Issue:

1. I'm familiar with the quirky attributes of the 7at. (The weird downshifting that it does sometimes in DS mode.. etc) but this is not what Im concerned with. My issue is in normal drive mode. When I am slowly approaching a stop and the car is shifting to its lowest gear the car will JERK hard when its coming to a complete stop.. This is NOT normal because my wife also has a G37 coupe 7at and it NEVER does this. I also hear this faint whining sound when I start my car. It quiets down after a while, but you can still hear it.. Its not the power steering because the whine doesn't change when I turn the steering wheel.. its a steady whine.. could it be the transmission???

I had a honda accord that did the same thing and eventually the tranny went out completely.. Should I change the transmission fluid? The dealer is charging 150 to do a drain and fill.. Also should I also change the differential fluid too?

Thanks for any advice.

The 2009 7at models are known to have jerking and hesitation issues. There is a transmission software update that can fix that. Do a search and you can find more info. Regarding the whine without more information it's hard to say it could be anything. I suspect it's unrelated to the transmission though. Usually that's indicative of another type of problem.

Here's the AT DIY 3x drain & fill + pan removal (which I would recommend), this is more complete vs. just a single drain & fill. If you go to the dealer be sure to ask for the FULL service (3x drain & fill). https://www.myg37.com/forums/d-i-y-i...rop-clean.html FWIW, that whine may be related to a low fluid condition, hopefully a service will get it working as it should. I wish I had a 7AT for the mileage but I'm very thankful for having the last year of the 5AT. It's pretty much perfect all around.

The whining is due to low/old fluid with the clutch packs or the torque converter. I definitely recommend a fluid change and see if that helps the issue.
