Warranty engine questions

My G has been at the dealer for almost 2 weeks now. last I heard from them they wanted to drop the pan (possibly at my cost) to take pictures and send them to Infinity to determine if they will warranty the engine. How long does this process take and is there anything I can do to speed it up or put pressure on them? Call infinity costumer affairs myself?

That's crazy. What did they say was the reason for denial?

What happened to your engine? Your original post was entirely without context.

Bought my 2011 G with 48000 miles. Checked my oil at first fill up and it was low. Filled it up and next fill up it was low again. Checked for leaks and nothing externally. Again checked at next fill up, low again. Had the oil changed at the local shop due to time constraints. Checked the level upon leaving and it was full. Next fill up it was off the stick. Brought it to the infinity dealer and they started a consumption test. He said he had to mark the stick, filler cap, drain plug, and filter so it couldn't be tampered with. I told him I didn't think it would make it 1000 miles without running dry. He said no worries, if the engine blows during their test it will be covered. When I got it back it had symptoms of being over full and was blowing tons of smoke out of the exhaust. Well it blew and I had it towed in. He called to say they found scoring in the cylinders and I asked if they checked the stick. He said no and asked about service records which I didn't get from the dealer I bought it from. He submitted a claim to Infinity and they wanted to drop the pan possibly at my cost. ok. A week has gone by and I haven't heard anything so I called infinity consumer affairs today and they said they hadn't received the pics they requested from the dealer. Got a call back 20 minutes later form the dealership saying denied and no explanation. Called consumer affairs again and was informed it was denied due to sludge. I've put 2000 miles on this car and the dealership says they'll be glad to put in an engine for 13.5k!

How the hell can they deny the claim based on events that took place before you owned the car? I'd raise hell with Infiniti USA if I were you.

I guess the catch 22 there is I bought the car from the Lincoln dealership on the other side of town. I got a hold of them right when I got denied. They said that they acquired the car from Nissan corp in a closed auction so there should be no reason Infinity isn't backing it. looks like more of the waiting game. I dropped 20k on a car that I can no longer drive and the loaner goes back tomorrow.

Lots of finger point going to happen with this case. While the car may be under warranty, infiniti is still within their right to demand proof of regular maintenance. Especially oil changes given that the failure revolves around a lack of oil.

I do all my own oil changes but keep receipts for oil and filter purchases. If you can produce some proof that the car was properly maintained prior then you have a case. Even if you consult with a lawyer, i'm not sure what can be used to justify your case. For all they know the oil was never changed in the car.

^^Which means what? If it were CPO, that might help your case, but not sure what factory certified means..

Do you actually have anything saying it's CPO? It shouldn't come certified from an auction, they would have to certify it themselves I believe.

HA! I just recently went through this myself, Infiniti is a pain in the BUTT to deal with when it comes to claims of warranty. Sludge shows user neglect. And it sounds like the previous owner was told it had sludge and got rid of it. Same as happened to me. My claim was denied also. I went through LKQ for a new motor and it was only $2400. Give them a call and they will hook you up! However, before having it installed, make sure the shop checks it for sludge. LKQ will send another one if there is a problem. Shop labor rate for my motor was $3200 though.

Hope this helps and sorry your going through what I went through.

Ask the Lincoln dealer for the paperwork Nissan gave them on the sale of the car. There should be some clause as to whether a warranty is expressed or implied in the sale of a car. If it says there is no warranty expressed or implied, then Infiniti doesn't have to accept your claim. When you bought the car from Lincoln, that sale should also have mention on whether it was sold to you with a warranty. If neither say a warranty is implied, then you are outta luck. If Lincoln sold it with a warranty but bought it from Infiniti without one, then Lincoln would have to foot the bill. It is all a matter on whether a warranty existed during the purchases of this vehicle. It is ****ty, but that is the way it is.

I am assuming you ran the VIN through the Infiniti dealer and Nissan dealer to see if they can locate maintenance records. If not, try running the VIN through the major oil change companies like Jiffy Lube, Express, Walmart, etc. to see if they have any records.

^^That's true. The lincoln dealer can claim it had the remainder of the manufacturer's [powertrain] warranty.

Did it come with something that looked like this?
