How Nitrous works?

Hey gang. Happy memorial day and god bless all the vets and thank you for your service. Question:

I've read a couple threads about nitrous but no threads on how nitrous works, etc. I'm running 8 psi SC and don't plan on getting nitrous but I am curious how safe it is. What is the difference between 75/100/125 shot nitrous? It's My understanding that power and torque are higher with a higher level shot but how exactly does it work?

Cheers friends.

Simply put, Nitrous Oxide at high temperatures (inside the engine) break up and releases a lot of Oxygen. The added Oxygen allows you to burn more fuel and bingo, more power.

The amount injected (jet size) theoretically determines how much additional HP you can make, and hence their rating (100 hp-shot and so on..)

If you want to learn about tuning and control of Nitrous Systems, there are many online articles/books that can keep you busy for days.

Having said that, I wouldn't do it. It's a very fast and furious boy racer like mod haha. If you have a TT or SC kit, why add more complication to it and worry about refilling bottles? To each their own.

Great explanation Sam! If I was TT, I'd consider water or meth injection to cool the intake charge further to get higher boost over N2O.

Even then, a 75 shot would be pushing you to the limit, assuming you've got stock pistons and conn rods. If you have stock internals, you're already running an 11.0:1 compression ratio. I'd be concerned for your current setup to use N2O without forged internals.
