I agree that many manufacturers say the trans fluid is either "lifetime" or good up to 100,000 miles. That keeps the TCO down.

I am certain that no one would keep the same oil in their crankcase indefinitely. Most synthetic oil lasts up to 10,000 miles, so if the transmission has synthetic fluid, I could see it lasting 50,000 miles (maybe). But I think the first step here is to change the transmission fluid and see it that solves the problem. It is a 50/50 shot, but a $300 transmission fluid change is a small price to pay instead of a $8,000 transmission.

Just in case people want to tackle a full transmission fluid drain / refill procedure themselves.

This awesome DIY above was posted recently.

I had been coming to grips with the fact the three time drain/fill procedure as outlined in the factory service manual for 370z's and g37's with the 7AT was going to require a Consult III (to gauge tranny fluid temps) and I was going to have to fork out around $350 (Nissan S-matic fluid isn't cheap and i wouldn't be allowed to supply my own). Now, knowing some timing and ways to not use the nissan bottom fill tube to do the fluid change (drain and fill holes are on the bottom of the transmission, making the filling part tricky-- especially compared to 5AT or the 6MT) I have complete confidence in tackling this w/ a friend.

GL OP and keep us posted on what you find out.

Tim, I was going to suggest low fluid but the dealer has already confirmed that it's not an issue. Subscribed to hear your results. Wishing you the best, and cheapest outcome.
