OP ,
The 7AT diff has a centering pinion sticking out of the flange and the 6mt doesn't. If you read Coops install you may see where it could be a problem.

hey solidus, thx for the heads up. been looking at this more and you're correct. I will end up purchasing a used drive shaft for this. will need to replace all of the u joints on it before going on... another expense before getting this in...

Because my car is a 12' it doesn't have bolts connecting the two halves so yesterday I had to buy two 08' driveshafts. I'm going to just swap the ends and go that route. I thought about going the u-joint route but even though this is more expensive I can always sell cheap. BTW I bought two from coupes but if I read Coops thread right I believe you can use the rear half from 07 and up sedans as long as they have the 4 bolt center connection. (Don't hold me to that. )

Hope yours gets done first so I can hear about it.

drive shaft woes

finally found time to do my diff. car up on stands and I pulled the driveshaft out. wanted to make sure I wouldn't have any problems before I got deep into the install. I even bought another driveshaft that works with the diff... it turns out that the driveshaft is different and I can't even swap parts to make one that fits... this is something that hasn't really been spoken in depth regarding the swapping of differentials. My car is an 09 sedan 7spd auto. It comes with a drive shaft that doesn't have u joints between the 2 halves. I bought a manual driveshaft from an earlier vehicle that connects to the manual diff, but it doesn't fit the front shaft going to the tranny because it has u joints connecting them together...

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT COMPLETE DRIVE SHAFT TO THE CAR before full disassembly or you will be just practicing diff removal. I now need to buy a MT driveshaft for a 2009 g37 sedan... Anyone have one by chance? e me for fastest response please...

Don't you just swap the rear section of the driveshaft? That is what I read. I have the diff & the rear section of a MT DS for my swap parts when I'm ready to install in a few more months..

You saying your stock 1 doesn't unbolt at the middle into 2 pieces? Got a pic?
You can't swap the whole 6MT shaft into a auto because the output shaft at the front will not fit into the auto trans.

Dude!! I told you I had to buy 08 MT and an 08 AT and mate them together. I paid just under 300.00 on ebay for both. Also make sure you already have uprev because it's gonna throw a P0500 code . I will probably flash Uprev on Monday or Tuesday and my install will be done by the first week of October.

solidus,

strike 1 on my part. apparently didn't hear / understand everything you said...

jt2014

my drive shaft is 2 pieces but I purchased a driveshaft from a MT that is from 03-06. The one I bought has u joints and mine doesn't (2009). It isn't a direct swap and can't be used. Look at what Solidus has done... I think that's the way to go or go custom or locate a MT drive shaft for your year car.

Still trying...

From reading all I have on 370z boards I'm guessing it will. Most of swaps have been 6MT 3.69 to 4.08 but the 7AT swap to 3.69 is just as aggressive. In any event I want to be ready .

I'm about to do the same swap but I'm going with 3.90 gears, I'm curious to see how this goes. I was told by the shop I'm going to that you can just change the flange from the at diff to the manual diff and it should work. I have also read in coops at thread that he had issues with vibration and distortion of the flange doing said swap. I have my install scheduled for 10/23 so I hope to find as much info as possible before I take my car in.

In this thread the op States that specialty z just swapped the flanges and everything was fine. So I'm curious as to what the real truth is behind this swap. As I'm having my work done at specialty z, seb has stated that you just swap the flanges. Although, he did state that getting the rear portion of the mt drives haft is better.

yes I have the 7at..a few people have had it done there with just a flange swap and have had no issues..Seb is the only one I would let work on my car IMO its worth the 4 hour drive down from Vegas...if you weren't getting the gears done before the 25th I would have met up with you and taking you for a ride since ill be in LA that weekend.
