Tired/Hot engine?

Hi everyone,

Lately I noticed whenever I push the car on acceleration a bit and that outside temperature is somewhat hot, the engine acts like it is tired, at idle the rpm is at 600 and whenever it happens the rpm sits at 800, and there is a smell of like burned rubber is it because the engine is too hot and it tries to cool down or because it is just tired?

I want to know if this is normal, I have a 6MT '08 with 70 miles

Thank you

#1 I dont think engines get tired
#2 The RPMs sit higher because you are pushing the engine to its limits so is waiting for you to do it again. I bet it jerks as soon as you hit the gas.
#3 The burnt smell you talk about Im pretty sure is unburned fuel dont quote me on that.

70 miles total? you haven't even broken in the engine so everything is new. The heat of pushing the motor is going into everything. the motor and everything else needs time to settle, so to speak, in other words it needs to be broken in. give it 500 miles and many things will change, including gas mileage.

I doubt he only has 70 miles on a 2008 ... probably 70 OP has put on since owning it. Tired? I was going to leave that one alone but ..... a can of Red Bull every tank full will help.

If it's an 08 I think that 70 mile is a typo, probably 70k miles.
Keep in mind the all aluminum motors, especially higher output models radiate tons of heat, it can be pretty dramatic if you're not used to it.

I doubt that the engine is "tired". I wouldn't really consider 70k high mileage. That being said, my car acts sluggish during my 1 hour commute, in 100+ degree weather. These engines do run somewhat hot, though.

If you run the car hard, and live in a hot climate, you might want to consider an oil cooler.

Exactly how it acts on hot weather, like it is not as alert as it should be, I don't recall the car doing that last summer, besides the rpm should stay at 600 all the time

In my lifetime, I've owned close to 20 different makes/models of cars/trucks.

All of them have performed sub par during periods of excessive heat/use.

The worse was the 396 big block. Once the temp gauge headed east, performance fell off dramatically.

Our cars definitely run a little hot (high compression, aluminum block engines normally do), so it's probably best to drive conservatively when the temps exceed 80+ degrees.

Are we talking about heat soak? Basic what most already pointed out.

I understand now, that's why, at night when the temp cooled I always felt the car was faster, I thought it was in my head.. That I was imagining things..
