Strange clutch issue
Strange clutch issue
2008 6MT coupe with 99,000 miles, for the past week or so when the car is cold and I start it up the car is engaged in 1st even with the clutch fully depressed. I cannot shift from 1st to 2nd. After a few minutes and it warms up it will shift fine.
Any ideas? I have an appointment at the dealer for Monday, they thought it might be air in the clutch line (best case) or bad slave cylinder (worst case).
Thanks

I've just been researching clutch slave cylinder (CSC) issues. My first try would be to change your clutch hydraulic fluid. How long has it been since the last change? From what I've been reading the older it gets, the more susceptible to cold weather issues.
If not then it would be dropping the tranny for the CSC replacement. If so, the Z speed CSC appears to be the way to go instead of replacing with another OEM unit:
ZSpeed Performance Replacment HD Clutch CSC Heavy Duty Slave Cylinder Kit
YMMV and remember I'm still a newbie here

You should start to feel resistance in the clutch about an inch down from the top. There should be minimal slack up top too.
If you're not feeling resistance until later in the stroke then it's possible you have air and/or a leaking slave/mc.
Try putting the car into 4th gear first, then first. Could be worn syncros.
When was the last time the trans fluid was changed? I'm running synthetic redline mt85. Shifting is a bit notchy in the cold, but after a few miles is fine.
