Is it a knocking say like a metallic sound, or, does it sound like a Peterbuilt Diesel? Mine is brand new and the diesel sound is pretty common when it first starts, but the minute I slip it into gear...the sound vanishes. There are others on the forum that have confirmed this is normal with the VQHR37.

Switch to Ester based oil such as Eneos or Motul. The dealer uses the Nissan petroleum based w/ ester additive to remedy this but it is not as good as the fully synthetic ester based Eneos for the same price. I switched to Eneos early as a preventative and have never had this issue.

Eneos has no ester FYI. Redline in the other hand is fully ester and synthetic

You probably have already checked this, but I had knocking with certain brands of oil filters. Seems like our cars are picky and, so far, only the stock filter or Mobile 1 (don't scream at me!) are OK from my limited experience. Of course, I wouldn't rule out the oil as others have said. I use Castrol Edge / Synthetic 5W30 and have had great results with it.
