Exclamation SERVICE ENGINE SOON light on - 1k mi on the car

Been driving the car for about 3 weeks now - got it brand new. All of a sudden CHECK FUEL CAP (or smth like that) light came on, followed by SERVICE ENGINE SOON light. Fuel cap light went away, Engine one is still on. Taking it to Kearny Mesa Infiniti (San Diego, CA) today to check it out.

Has anyone experienced an issue like that (car drives normally as far as I can tell)?

Very surprised, this is something I'd expect from a BMW (had 3 of those in the past), but not Nissan (or any other major Japanese manufacturer).

Feedback is much appreciated!

Reset your ECN.
the fuel cap being loose will put a code that needs to be cleared.

If the fuel cap was loose, sometimes after a couple of weeks the engine light may turn off on its own after you tighten the cap.

Thank you. Read this forum and indeed, it does seem like a fuel cap issue. Will take it to the dealer in abt 1hr, we will see.

My check engine soon light came on. Took it to Autozone and they told me that it was the right O2 sensor. I removed it and soaked it in Sea Foam overnight reinstalled and removed the negative ground for a couple of minutes and reconnected. It has been fine up to today, when the light came on again. It worked for >2k miles, but now it has reappeared. Just had AZ check it out again and they said that there were no new faults. I will take it to a Infiniti tech this week.

You can always take it to the dealers to remove that for you. If they don't then just pull your negative terminal on the battery and resent your windows and your radio stations.

To the OP, without knowing what DTC was set it's impossible to guess what the issue is. Yes it may be as simple as a loose/leaking gas cap, but could also be one of many other emission control devices/sensors.

Sometimes even reading a code is misleading because the actual problem is somewhere else. It takes a sharp tech to truly *diagnose*.

Took the car to the dealer, it was a fuel cap issue indeed. Took about 45min and I was on my way. Still, very strange for a brand new Japanese car.
But nonetheless, thank you for your replies!

Not strange at all. People forget to properly secure their gas caps all the time,,,
