ENEOS 5W-30 - Upgraded Fully Synthetic Formulation!

GF- 5 OVERVIEW

The new ILSAC GF-5 specification is an improvement in engine oil performance compared to the current GF-4 specification. The new ENEOS GF-5 oil provides better fuel economy, increased emission system durability, enhanced piston cleanliness, reduced engine sludge, and improved turbocharger protection.
SPECIAL FEATURES

  • Outstanding Oxidation Stability at High Temperatures
ENEOS Motor Oil 5W30 meets the latest API SN standard for gasoline engine oils.
  • Excellent Engine Cleanliness and Water Resistance
ENEOS Motor Oil 5W30's excellent engine cleanliness and wear resistance have been proven in official laboratory tests in the United States. This performance has also been confirmed in a fill range of vehicle tests.
  • Little Oil Consumption
The consumption of motor oils depends largely on the type of base oil. Because ENEOS Motor Oil 5w30 is blended from high-performance oils, it has little oil consumption, so users can look forward to adding less oil to their engines.

Post some UOAs please. The old partial synthetic formulation actually performed better than some other full synthetics. It stands to reason that this should be even better.

So a few guys on the g37 forums have been using Eneos with good results and one sent in one for a VOA. The VQ37 is pretty hard on oils so I was pretty impressed with the Eneos UOAs. When the guy posted the VOA, I was taken back by how simple the additive package is and was curious if anyone on here could provide any additional insight onto this oil.

VOA:

UOA (Both on Eneos):

Other UOA (Both also on Eneos):

Keep in mind that the VOA and both of the UOA that you posted are on the old formulation Eneos 5w30 that was not full synthetic.

That is not physically possible. Did you mean to put .5 mpg?

I went from PU to the new fully syn Eneos. No change in mileage. UOA will be done at the next change, but I've still got a couple thousand miles to go.

Nope. I mean 5 mpg. Went from an average of 24 mpg to 19, then back up to mid 20's. I may have had more to do with the winter mix if ethanol, but I haven't noticed that big of a drop the previous winters.

Oil alone didn't change your mileage by 5 MPG. You may be onto something with the fuel having something to do with it. Along with other factors that you may not be aware of. If a motor oil alone made a consistent, repeatable increase in MPG of even half that, they'd be the greatest selling oil on the planet. And if Eneos caused that big a drop, it wouldn't be the biggest selling motor oil in Japan where they are far more concerned about mileage than we are as a society.

I speak form experience because I used Eneos for quite some time. Switched to PU and I've had no mileage increase with pretty much identical driving conditions.

Maybe different oil + different fuel + driving habits + something else. +5 MPG is over a 25% increase. That is impossible for one 5w30 oil to accomplish over another brand of the same grade.

Just curious, but did Nissan replace their recommendation with another oil?

well, both the instant read of the mpg on the dash wouldn't go over 23-25 and the overall average on the tank of gas read around 19-20 mpg. there is nothing different except for maybe the percentage of ethanol in the gas and the oil in the crankcase. my car has 9k miles and i do 95% of my driving on the highway or back roads. on pu, i can get an instant read on a straight stretch of 27-30 and as stated before, average around 24-26 mpg.

i wasn't trying to start an argument about oils, i just wanted to know if anyone else had a similar experience. maybe an aberration, but i don't think i'll be going to eneos.

I see. You kind of lost me when you mentioned you are going by the electronics on the dash to determine fuel mileage. The only accurate means I've ever found on any car to determine fuel mileage is to divide the exact number of miles driven by the exact number of gallons of fuel consumed. The cars readout on this isn't all that accurate all the time, at least on my 08.

It is odd though that I've used both extensively and didn't experience the drastic change in fuel mileage that you did. I'm really curious as to why that could be. But if I lost 25% of my fuel mileage I wouldn't touch it either.
