Why exactly did you drop the idea?

Black Betty, do you have any more pictures of your driveshaft? Specifically of the carrier bearing and the center coupling?

Not any that are particularly detailed, but I have a couple on my phone that I can upload now at work. I still have the shaft at home and can take some of anything specific you need if you let me know what you want photographed.

^^^ The other one is that 4.08 rear which closed early on eBay. You DOG!

I'm planning on taking off time from my studio work tomorrow to drive into Brooklyn (60mins) and likely get that G35 auto driveshaft.

At least I'll have good measurements for most of it due to BB's awesome posts.

Of course I'll let us know. (IVW: Shall I pick up a pair? LOL! )

Yes, yes you should. That is, if it fits.

I did a little measuring. I was on my back with the rear of the G jacked up and everything is still in place (exhaust, swaybar, heat shields). And I think my measurements came within 1/8 of an inch of working (for the driveshaft BB measured). I'm hoping your G35 shaft works because there are a LOT of those out there. Not so many G37 Coupe Manual driveshafts though.

My fingers are crossed for you Coop.

So it was a bit of a saga today: I left at 12:15pm having been told the first salvage yard would be open till 2pm. About an hour and 15 mins to get there. I called on the road at 1pm to announce my arrival and so they might have it ready.

"Sorry, we're closing early today in five minutes." I'm still 30 mins away. No amount of cajoling could change his mind. Harrumpph. I'm losing money now as I took time off from my studio work.

Pulled off and fired up my iPad with internet and checked car-parts.com again: There is another junkyard within five miles in the Bronx. (Hilltop Salvage)

I called and he would remain open for the afternoon. Drove there in ten mins and he had a complete 2-piece shaft from a 2003 4-dr sedan with an auto ($100), and two rear shafts from auto coupes. No front noses. After comparing, the two rear shafts appeared to be exactly the same as the one on the auto.

I brought the manual 4-bolt diff flange, and it mated perfectly to all the shafts.

In the end, I just grabbed the rear section with the support bearing, and I'm going to use my own front auto section to mate.

No one knew for sure, but we figured the sedan would be the same length. However, I wanted to be safe and save a few dollars. This said, it saved me money to walk away with only the rear. I paid $75, and tipped the worker $5 for his extra help with me.

I'm going to clean it up and paint it and I'll post when I do.

I have to wait another week for the schedule in The Shop. He's slammed, and I'm one of his better clients for breaks, so I give him latitude. I may consider getting it up on jackstands and going through the swap myself. I'm capable, it's all a matter of time.

We will see.

^^^ All for nought. Not even close. It's about 5.5" longer than BB's measurements to the center of the bearing and the ends of the flanges (35.5"). And I got under the car and verified this. 2003 G35 auto? Maybe so, but not compatible.

I needed to stick with BB's accurate measurements. Sigh.

Like Thomas Edison said: "I didn't fail, I just found 99 ways that didn't work."

Gotta find a manual G37 DS. Or have access to a selection.

Cranky.

That sucks Coop! But, I do have good news for you. I put the car up on the lift and did some measuring of my own. The back half of a driveshaft from an 08 G37 Coupe (manual) should work perfectly. That is, going off of BB's measurements.

I started the day by putting an axle with a new set of 3.55's into my pops 300C SRT8. We took it out a couple times and put two heat cycles through the new gears. The next 300-500 of easy break in miles are going to be tough. This thing wants to roar.

After that, we put the G on the lift and started to get some measurements. We took the heatshields off to get at everything and I think I now know it can be done. I'm set to order a driveshaft on Monday.

Don't thank me too much. I seriously thought about keeping all of it except he BOV spring. I mean seriously. I also though about just keeping the money to teach you a lesson since it was sent as a gift.
