Question regarding aftermarket intake

Hey guys,
so I recently picked up some dirt cheap intake off of Ebay, in which I had no issues installing it, no CELs and I obviously disconnected and reconnected the battery as well. With that, I immediately noticed a decrease in power and it really felt like the engine was struggling. So I checked all my connections along with MAF sensors and everything looked good.

So eventhough I paid like 75 dollars for this piece of an intake, shouldnt I see some sort of increase in response? I mean, I'm not expecting much at all, but the difference was so crucial that I pulled the aftermarket immediately, reset the ECU and was right back to where I should be. But in order to actually feel a difference in power, is a tune mandatory after any aftermarket install?

With that, my car has 49k on it, its an 08 Sport and runs flawlessly.
Spark plugs were just changed and throttle bodies were cleaned too during the intake install.

Thanks guys.

I think your first problem is the purchase of an intake off ebay. Never buy any of that stuff, name brand manufactures like stillen or injen or r2c spend alot of time developing intakes for the VQ engine, to make sure stuff like decrease in horsepower doesn't happen. Yes there alot more money but you get what you pay for.

@JohnsVert, thats exactly what I figured. You get what you pay and it stands true too! Ever since I put the stock back on, it runs perfectly with no hesistation, versus the aftermarket.

Thanks again!

Put the oem intake back in and see if that restores the power back.

From reading in this forum, I've learned that the stock intake is actually very good. I've resolved not to change mine....this year.

There is not good a reason to change intake on the G. After market intakes suck in hot air or turbulence that drives the cpu crazy.

I did go right back to stock and my power was restored immediately. Makes perfect sense though!

If you wanna get decent gains from an intake try keeping your stock air box & using the HPS intake tube while dropping K&N or AFE filters & you'll be good. Since you're not trying to drop a lot of cash. This setup should cost less that $300 if that close even.
