Manual Transmission Fluid Change

So I drained the transmission and then started the fill. I used Amsoil Synthetic Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear Lube (75W-90) API GL-4. I used all 3 quarts I bought yet it did not overflow from the "fill" like I am used to on previous cars. I reached my pinky finger in and could touched fluid, but it has me kind of worried. I will say that it shifts smoother now but think I might order another quart just to be sure.

I was wondering if anyone else had this experience?

I think it's 3 quarts + 4oz. I remember buying 4 quarts and throwing away the rest of the last bottle..

There's a sticky in the DIY forum on this procedure. It tells you to use 3 quarts + 4 oz.

Probably helps to have the car perfectly level too.? When I do mine, I'll probably just have drive on ramps on all 4 corners. I have 2 different pairs of jack stands, so it's hard to get the same height.

A level car is mandatory when doing tranny fluid changes. Some cars also require the the tranny is running and warmed up while filling as well, but I don't believe so with the G.

The nice thing about hack stands is that if you don't have a perfectly level garage or driveway, you can adjust them to make them level, or close to it.

I have access to a lift so the level thing is no issue. Guess I will just buy another quart and top it off. I have had no issues but I don't want it to become a problem down the line.

One more question. I noticed metallic pieces in the oil on draining. Very small/fine. Did anyone notice this on changing theirs. Car has 74,000 miles on it and I don't know if it has ever been changed prior to me.

yes, that's normal. the magnet on the end of the drain plug picks up all the filings. just be sure to clean it before putting it back on...
