transmission problem? Please Help

Hey guys, haven't been on here for awhile but I've been having some issues with my 2008 G37 lately. Every time I step on the gas at normal driving conditions, the car will jump up to 2 - 3k rpm while barely stepping on the pedal. At highway speeds of 55 + it will stick at 3,000 rpm even when I let off the gas it won't go past 2,000 rpm so I have to brake to bring it back down to 1. It doesn't seem to downshift either or only does when I brake. A buddy who drove my car said that it may be stuck in gear, but honestly I am clueless when it comes to these things I just know that my G isn't driving right and my warranty is out so I really don't want to bring it to the dealership. What do you guys think is the problem?? Thanks

Remember that the powertrain warranty is longer

How many miles on the car? If it is an auto and there are more than 40k on it consider changing the transmission fluid. I know it sounds simple, but this may actually resolve the issue.

If you're under the power train warranty, I'd first start with a dealer reprogram of it.

Then a fluid change if you're over 40k miles and it hasn't been changed. (if the reprogram doesn't help)

Good news guys. Well not really good but lol took it to a transmission shop and they determined that nothing was wrong with the transmission but that the catalytic converter had given out again. So on to another trip to the dealer next week. Hopefully they do it right this time! Thanks for the help
