2012 G37 Sedan in DS mode (Auto transmission downshift problem)

Hey guys

this is my first G37 sedan!
I have gone thru the thread about transmission update/issues for g37 (2009-2011) and could not find the answer! I don't know how to describe the problem correctly or what are the correct words for this problem

Here is what is happening since last 2 days

My car has 800 miles on it (bought december 17, 2011)
When I drive the car in DS mode on streets with 45 mph speed limit, if there is a red light coming and I slow down my car, hit a break little bit and if i see light turns to green, I try to accelerate. It looks like the car goes to N and when i hit accelerator, It increases RPM but the car won't respond to the acceleration. Its like when u accelerate your car in P. This lasts 2-3 seconds.

It only happens in DS mode. (not in M or D)

It happened twice in last 2 days

Can anyone explain whats the problem and what should I describe to dealer?

Thanks

This is the lag everyone talks about in the other thread you read. It happens in D or DS. If you're not experiencing it in D mode, you will once the transmission learns your driving habits. Especially if you drive in stop and go traffic a lot.

That doesn't sound like the lag problem to me. My car doesn't act like its in neutral you can tell its down shifting. The problem at around 40 to 45 is your car will shift all the way up into 6th or 7th, so when you hit the gas it takes it a bit to down shift through all those gears to get back to 3rd or even 2nd. This does not sound like that, what you are discribing sounds totally different and you sound take it in to the dealership and have them look at it. Heck it's a new car. Now if it's like I am discribing then well the only fix is to manually shift the car and not let it get up to 6th or 7th in town. Heck I never let my cars go past 5th in town unless I am on the freeway. Down shifting 2 gears is far faster than 4.

They should be legally obligated to tell you about the horrible transmission before buying the car. I have a 2010 with 18months left on the lease, with no fix in sight I fully regret my purchase. The transmission is horrible; it's dangerous with the lag and/or power surges and makes people nauseous. As you can see, with 70,000 views and 845 replys, it's a common problem to say the very least.

I had this problem and I asked around and many people even those working at the dealer told me that its trying to rev match with the speed your going. Its as if the car decides it wants to do its own thing.

I bought my 2011 g37 sedan in November and have not noticed any transmission problem except for the fact that it could be smoother shifting.

My 2011 has that lag issue and it's actually getting worse (especially in cold weather). It was built after the models the TSB applies to.

Especially while coasting with the throttle closed in D or DS, if I pull the left paddle to downshift into 2nd, it will pause for about 2-3 seconds (seems like an eternity with traffic coming up behind me). This usually happens if someone in front of me is turning left, or I'm coasting down to a red light which turns green - I want to get into 2nd gear to accelerate back up to speed. Very frustrating.

So far I've had to cancel two dealer appointments and now they're booked up for the next couple weeks. Hopefully I'll get in there soon, but I'm expecting to hear that it's acting normally.

Are there any clear videos of any or all of these many variations of the tranny issues? The descriptions are quite clear, it would just be nice to see the tach and hear everything along with maybe the driver saying when they are throttling up and down as we can't see that to get a sense of the lag times etc.

Dealer visit...although, it honestly just sounds like you're trying to accelerate in 7th gear from 45mph+ but it will naturally take a while from gears up top
