Do you use a fuel additive?

Do you use a fuel additive?
I just helped my daughter buy a 2012 Elantra. It is direct injected, so the owners manual recommends using Top Tier gas stations or adding a fuel additive each oil change.
I went out and bought some bottles of Techron for her Elantra and will start using it in the G37 and my other cars also.
Since the G engine is not direct injected it is not as prone at having the injectors foul due to too low of an amount of detergent in some of the fuel being sold.
Apparently some of the oil companies are saving some money by lowering the amount of detergent that use to be in their gas.

Ironic, BP is not part of that list
It will be interesting to see how those gdi engines fair after a few years. I recall reading somewhere (or being told), that one possible solution used in higher end cars is multiple injectors - one in the cylinder, one in the port. Haven't researched this further to see if this is indeed being used, but does make sense.
Wonder what an valve cleaning service runs on these engines. Even more so, wouldn't be too surprised if the price of the fuel savings + valve cleaning results in about the same cost/mile over the long run.

All I've used for years is Top Tier Gasoline for all of my vehicles. I use mainly Shell but will use Quick Trip when convenient as it's also a Top Tier. I also use Red Line SI-1 Fuel System Cleaner once a quarter.

using some sort of injector cleaner every once and while cant hurt...but i doubt a brand new car will need it anytime before 50k miles...
just get on the on-ramp and open it wide open for 10 seconds...that will burn out carbon and such built up
some people run those additives ALL the time... that's bad as it will burn your engine internals up over time...too much heat...engines wasn't designed to burn fuel with that much additives all the time.
i could be wrong but thats just my .02

I started adding some RedLine S-1 Fuel Injector System Cleaner to the gas thinking that maybe it will help the throttle body from getting dirty and causing irregular idling???
Anyone know?
