over revving??

I know you can over rev a 6-speed manual by downshifting into a lower gear. I also know that when doing this even the rev limiter cant help you. Is there any way possible to over rev the 7 speed auto? can you do the downshifting and rev matching to over rev? going from the manual back to "D" at higher rpm? I'm just curious, because I might have done such a feat!

It's an automatic transmission. Even when it's in manual mode, it's still an automatic transmission. It won't let you hurt it like that. Just get on the highway and click the down shift paddle a bunch of times. It'll drop to the lowest safe gear (probably third?) then basically tell you to go F yourself and stay in that gear till you slow down or tell it to shift up again.

I doubt you can over rev a auto by downshifting. Put a Saab rental car into reverse once at 70mph and nothing happened!

This. Love the explanation. Yeah, unless you're on a manual, it won't let you.

It's very anticlimactic. You're driving down the road, and shift into reverse, and nothing happens. Your tranny says "F YOU!" and doesn't shift unless you slow down enough for it to do it without killing the engine.

Is it possible to have it In manual mode near redline and accidentally switch it to "d" rather than the next gear in manual mode (when the pedal is floored). I did that and I swear the tranny went ape ****e and flung to redline.....yes I'm a jabronie some times.

You certainly can switch it to d instead of telling it that you would like it to shift up a gear if that's ok with its programming. But alas, your tranny is smarter than you and still will not damage itself, or your engine. Rest assured, it's still ok

And because I've never seen anyone use these two smilies together, I'm going to
