IF ITS A 6MT:
Straight down from 5th, reverse needs a push to the right, and down.

Might you have a 5MT??

If you're at a speed where you need to shift up to sixth gear, you won't be able to get it into reverse. Even if you push the shift lever down and allow yourself to move it into that fork, you won't be able to get the teeth to mesh. You don't have syncros in reverse, so you won't wear that out.

Just pull the shift lever straight down from fifth and you'll be fine. You can even push it against the right side to make sure you don't hit fourth by accident. It's a little weird when you get your first 6 speed instead of the old 5 speeds, but you get used to it quick.

It is weird (never had a 6 speed) but if you shift straight down from 5th all the way to the right w/o pushing down you should be fine.

Your car has a reverse lockout. Not gonna happen.
