Great News! 7spd/6mt

So i have been driving the new 2012 sedans around for the past 2 days, both the auto and the 6mt. So far this is what I gathered.

7spd- flawless. No more lag, no weird behavior much more aggressive feels like a completely different car.

6mt- wasn't much to improve on but man it feels different. The throws are much smoother, clutch engagement area is much better, bites better and has more pull.

Not sure what they did but the programming feels completely different. If I can find any other reasons to trade my 10 for a 12 I will do so. Seems like Infiniti was listening.

Possibly stiffer concentric slave cylinder since a lot of them were failing in earlier models on the 6MT. I'm sure it doesn't beat the feel of a aftermarket clutch and stainless steel braided clutch line though.

Corrct. I have an '08 and didn't care for the clutch pedal feel or abrupt high engagement point. When I got an aftermarket clutch, flywheel, and heavy duty CSC, all is now perfect. But if they've somehow improved the OEM parts that's great.

I wonder if they just came out with another flash program for the 7spd auto or was there a re-design of the trans.

+1 to knowing whether ours can be upgraded with a reprogram and not with parts?

I drove a few of them and they all reacted the same way. Its a different program so this upgrade would be available. Not sure if you could update the software or have to just replace the ecm.

They have not changed the transmissions themselves.

Interesting, I wonder if the will actually make it available for the earlier years? Its the only semi-complaint I have about my 2011.

Thats good to know, it means there is a possibility we can ALL get a fix. I wonder what Almatti would do if his G started driving the right way

For sure my 6 week old sedan didn't show any of the issues until 4 weeks in... I drive real hard and it doesn't help... The tranny Learming is what creates the problem.

One of the previous posters mentioned its a different program. If that could be verified by using Consult to find the version, it might lend some truth to the possibility that they found and fixed issue(s) with the learning algorithms.

I agree with you though, just like when the first "fix" came out, everyone reported improvements the first week or two, then came back and said it was acting the same as before. Its just when the ECU is new (like a 2012) or flashed (like after an upgrade) that the learning is "cleared" and performance returns.

I still think they can resolve it with an update, and I think the chances are good that it happens because it looks like Nissan/Infiniti want the 7AT to be A) across many different models and B) the "future" of their automatic trannies (minus CVT).
