That's a cast piece and probably cannot be welded and achieve any real strength. Are you going to try and tackle this job yourself? Do you have the replacement crossmember yet? You are going to have to support the engine as you remove the member. It should be pretty straight forward although I believe there are a few lines that are bracketed to the backside of the cross member that will make it tricky but I imagine if you just take your time you will do alright.

If you don't remember hitting a pot hole or anything like that you may try going back to the dealer and calling it a manufacturers defect of some sort and get it covered under warranty??

Generally welding of cast alloy is difficult and not as strong as the original. From where it is broken it would have to be removed to effectively weld it back together so if you have a replacement you might as well install that then fix the old one.

I would say that you will need a basic mechanics tool set as well as an engine hoist to support the motor when removing the member. You will also need a good set of jack stands. Like I said, should be pretty staight forward. If your not comfortable pulling it apart without a step-by-step road map of what bolts to remove in what order you should maybe leave it to a professional.

so it can be weld but would it be strong enough to maintain its strength of the road and steering wheel turns or how long would it last just a quick idea on how long it will last if i weld it.

Really depends on how good the welder that's doing it is. If it's soul purpose is to secure the steering rack it may live a long life welded (as long as it's welded good!) but if it has any other strucural duties that include supporting the engine or suspension I would not recommend repair.

For what i know i looked under the engine inspecting for a good ten minutes trying to inspect any other damage but so far so good only that tiny spot that holds the left driver side rack.
