6MT shift **** removal

so i recently got hold of a new shift **** and was wondering how some of you guys got your OEM shift ***** off. i read and searched around but could not find any advice. all i found was HORROR stories of people ruining their OEM **** because they tried removing it with vise grips and such. Was wondering if you could give me some tip

i had the same problem couple of month back, i took my car in the dealers for service and told them to loosen the **** up for me because there is alot of locktite on there! you just twise it off some guys get hoses and stick in on the **** and use a wrench and twise. but my advice is try to twise it off with hands first if not take to dealer mind did it for free.

or if you have a heat gun you can pop the trim off and heat the metal shifter link (not the ****) just a little to loosen the locktite!

Ya I took it to my dealer and they said it is extremely difficult to take it off without ruining it. But I think they just do not want to be responsible in case they ruin my ****. But can't blame them.

Doesn't the heat ruin my shift boot?

my 370Z was a pain to do as well, that locktite was just globbed up in there. i ended using some channel locks, took like 10 mins to twist it off. Ruined the stock **** but what ever.

although i heard someone used and oil filter strap wrench, one of the plastic handled-rubber strapped ones, said he got it off with a little muscle and didnt ruin the stock one

Believe it or not, I was able to get it off by hand. I was kneeling over the thing with a knee on each seat to get maximum leverage. I also took a few 5 min. breaks in between all the rotations! It was a pain in the a$$, but it finally came off. Don't blow a nut though.....hahaha.

Mine was actually loose. I was able to just twist it off like a bottle cap.

You can damage the shift lever by twisting too hard; here are some instructions on how to remove the shift **** on a 350Z; the same applies to the G37:

Use a belt wrench. Helps a lot and doesn't ruin the ****. Still have mine it's like new.

try what i did, elbow grease is only needed with my method. Get a good grip on the **** with your right hand then the left hand over the right. Now give the **** a short strong twist right to left continue until you break it loose. It took me 2mins being careful not to break anything and **** still looks new! GL
