This was done by design. When you're turning your wheel, you may lose orientation of up/down left/righ on the wheel, and end up mixing up the paddles. With them being stationary, left will ALWAYS be downshift and right will be upshift.

Brand new G37 owner here. Does anybody know where I can find paddle shifters in the $200-$250 range that some of the members mentioned way back? I looked on Ebay but could only find the carbon fiber ones for $320.

Infiniti of Riverside California sold them on eBay for a time. I think the dealership has changed management and no longer sells them there. But, you might call them and ask if they can put the kit together for you.
What's up fellow myg37 member, I finally got around to installing my paddle shifter n it was pretty easy, all you have to do is follow the instructions posted by (DOC) or (wrap37).
I'm enjoying every minute of my new paddle shifters. Thanks to all, also I have 2013 g37x sedan with navi n bose.
