G37 Coupe 2 more HP than Sedan... Why?

Anyone know why the G37 Coupe gets 2 more HP and 1 foot pound more torque than the sedan? Is it intake, exhaust, program?

Pretty sure they have to use equipment and methods certified to standards, and have a neutral party there to certify the results if they plan to use them in advertising.

Having said that, the differences are less than 1%, which is probably within the error margin of the test.

The convertible has 325 HP. It's due to the exhausts on the cars.

I would imagine the coupe and sedan have different length exhaust pipes or different routing. This could easily make a few horse power difference at the wheels. They would use the stock exhaust to rate the engine. Just like how they added lower flow restricting cats and mufflers to gain hp numbers

Its just marketing, coupe is supposed to be sportier. They all have the same amount of power in reality

+1 btw the 08 coupe has 333hp@60 mph, I did ask the question on multiple occasions.
supposed a ram air effect @ 60mph.
they don't make it known, because the "nantional speed limit is 55."
in ny it's only 50, car feels like is on opiates at 50mph on highway.
even my gramps who is 92 smashes that in his '00 q45.
found out that was set in 70's during gas cruch, never raised after that.
more $ for tickets, bust someone doin 80 they need a lawyer.
if you were caught doing that on the nj turnpike, it would be a $175 ticket, not sure of the points.

^ can you re-explain that again, RISKY? i think i understand...? lol but sounds like some good information to know.

i agree with most, it's probably in the design of the exhaust. note: the sedan's 1/4 mile time and 0-60 time are QUICKER than the coupe's

short version, go 60 it has 333hp vs 328hp.
that's also how stillen gen 3 makes 15whp.
it creates higher velocity forcing more into the intake & maf. By using 2 1/2 inch pipe vs 3 (injen has 3 inch pie) Had a nice covo with kyle@stillen.
coupes always have more stock hp than sedans.
don't coupes weigh more?

Yes. The coupe has slightly more power because of it's more louder and free flowing exhaust. However, the coupe is slower because it is heavier. Coupes are sometimes heavier then their sedan counterparts because need more structural integrity strength thus requiring more heavier material on the car.

The coupe and the sedan have the exact same wheel base at 112.2 inches, so I would think the exhaust length would be the same. It could be a more performance, free flowing exhaust. I wonder if it could be used on the sedan (if and when the exhaust wears out)? The numbers are supposed to be SAE numbers, but I wouldn't doubt that marketing is the reason.

Really? The Coupe is heavier than the Sedan?

Who'da thunk it? I know the verts are heavier because of all the reinforcement they need, but figured the sedan had to be heavier just by sheer volume of metal... more doors and stuff...

coupes are heavier, this is old news. no B pillar in the coupe means additional unibody reinforcement is required. in the gen 1's the diference was ~80lbs, in the gen 2's it is less (~50lbs).

the power difference is primarily marketing-driven, as others have said. just like in the gen 1's where 03-04 the sedan was rated at 260, coupe at 280. it is well known that they had the same engine and power, but infiniti wanted the coupe (which costed more) to stand apart from the more pedestrian sedan and appeal to those thinking they were getting the sportier model.

I have to agree with most of you guys here that the HP differance is no more then a marketing strategy. Isn't it true that all engines do not come from the factory with the exactly same hp figures and of course they don't dyno every engine to confirm the hp levels are all the same. I don't know about anyone else here but I couldn't feel 1 hp or 2 ft. lbs. of torque on a good day.
