Do you guys not do the regular dealer service intervals? Stuff like that gets changed at that point, plus, every time I get an oil change, the dealer checks the filter to see if it needs changing, or if anythings out of the ordinary. That's just ridiculous, waiting 42k to change your air filter. That's like saying oh shoot, I'm at 20k miles, let's see if my oil is any good.

Not everyone goes to a dealership to get their car serviced. I got my first three oil changes free from the dealership, then subsequently paid for another two or three. After that, I decided to go the full synthetic route for two reasons: 1) Increased oil change intervals, and 2) Didn't like the synthetic blend the dealer was using (brand name was Orange I believe, don't remember for certain). To justify increasing my OCI's, I got a UOA done from Blackstone using a specific setup (Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 and Mobil1 M1108), which I strictly adhere to.

Anyway, I'm not denying my negligence in keeping track of my engine air filter. Totally my bad, and something I won't be doing again. I've taken care of everything else on a regular basis. Just wanted to show the community what might be under your hood if your filter hasn't been swapped out for a long time and hoping to inspire more awareness for regular maintenance.

Here's one next to my new filter...
Point blank. There is no excuse being lazy not to changing out the filter at 41.2K miles
I felt sad just by look'in at it

I don't disagree. TBH, it was more lazy initially, then I just straight out forgot. But I know that's no excuse.

Actually, my gas mileage was fine. I was still getting 20-21mpg on average. This is my first tank on the new filters, so I guess we'll see if there's an improvement.
