Tranny Fluid 6MT
Tranny Fluid 6MT
I just had my transmission replaced under warranty about 100 miles ago. I had a horrible whining noise which went away when you pressed in the clutch.
Was determined that the input shaft bearing was bad. I am now starting to hear the same noise again, now only 100 miles later.
I am thinking of replacing the tranny fluid to help quiet this noise, or prolong the shaft bearings life.
Any recomendations? It's hard to believe this bearing is going bad again after 100 miles

What kind of noise is it? Wheneven I let the clutch out I can always hear the transmission moving sort of, and you can slightly feel it in the clutch pedal, but when I push the clutch in it goes quiet and is fine. Is that the same problem?
Just a FYI-- manual transmissions use gear oil. Tranny fluid is a term usually associated with automatic transmissions. If you decide to change the gear oil in your manual transmission, make sure the auto parts store (or dealer parts dept) gives you the right stuff.
That's about right. I can only describe it as a slight whining noise. Goes completely silent when you push in the clutch pedal.
I guess that's what I meant. Anyone recommend a good gear oil for this tranny?

I have a whining noise when i start my car in the morning. seems to fade as i drive for 5-10 miles, and i i think fades when i press the clutch. I am dropping my car off, end of lease in 30-days, so I dont even want to deal with the service dept on it. It sounds like an annoying broken whistle...curious if its the same issue-the input bearing shaft..
Was the input bearing shaft being bad require a transmission replacement?? was that the only solution?

its just at dealership labor rates its cheaper to replace a transmission in 2 hours (and get it off the lift) then to fix and trouble shoot the thing in 6 hours

Hey man, I went through this same EXACT situation. Bought my car (08 G37S coupe 6MT with 18K miles) and heard the loud whining noise the night I brought it home from the dealer. Ended up getting the whole transmission replaced from the dealer. Since then, I do hear a similar noise when the clutch pedal is not engaged but it is much quieter than the original noise which was coming before the transmission was replaced. I have taken the car to the dealership several times to have the Service Manager test drive it (post replacement), and he says it's normal and everything is fine. He had another on the lot, and the same noise was coming from that too. So it seems to be normal.
In a quiet place like a garage or next to a wall, if you press in the clutch pedal and slowly let it back up, you can actually feel/hear the exact moment the shaft bearing engages and starts spinning, and you can hear the whirring/whining noise.
I really hope it's normal, being that I have the same noise on a brand new transmission now
