I've been down this road with my 2008 coupe w/mt 6 speed and both Infiniti dealerships say "It's normal!" and then when I talk to the master tech. at Santa Barbara Nissan when I have them just do oil changes he's tells me the transmission needs to be replaced and that's what they do for the 370z's. I wish my local Nissan dealership could do my warranty work instead of going down to Oxnard, CA. and getting bad service on a $40k car. The Santa Barbara Infiniti dealership went out of business after 1 1/2 years into my new car warranty.

There has to be a reason as to why all of these transmissions have really noisy input shaft bearings and eventually go bad. Has anyone looked into additives or different tranny fluid?

I am using a mix of Redline MT-90 and 75W140NS gear oil to bump up the viscosity. It is nice and quiet and shifts smoothly. Time will tell if it helps or hinders wear and tear.

I have the same issue, a 09 G37S manual with only 10k miles. However, I do have an aftermarket flywheel installed in the car, could that potentially be used by Infiniti to not want to cover the throwout bearing/input shaft fix? I'm not an expert in mechanics but I don't think the flywheel would have anything to do with rattle noise when NOT pressing down the clutch and in neutral. (the noise disappears when pressing down clutch)

Want to know for sure from the pros before I bring her in.

Thanks.

The rattle is actually coming from the gears in the tranny vibrating. The lighter, non-dampened flywheel allows the vibration from the motor to travel down the input shaft and directly into the transmission. When you press in the clutch, you separate the transmission from the engine and the sound stops.

Thanks for the input! That is quite interesting, is this something you learned from experience? Unfortunately I wasn't the one that installed the aftermarket flywheel in the car, it was the short-lived previous owner, so I have no idea if the rattle was there before the flywheel got installed.

Additionally, how would I be able to tell between the noise you mention and a legit problem with the input shaft or throwout bearing?

I'd hate for them to take apart my G only to find the aftermarket flywheel and then blame the noise on that and hold me responsible for the labor.

Honestly, it is quite an annoying rattle, specially when closed in against a wall like at a drive-through or a parking lot building. Just wish there was a easy way to get this fixed.

That noise is the release/throw out bearing... They're going to you tell its normal... It really isn't an issue other then the noise and as soon as you need to replace the clutch a new one will be installed so the noise will go away for awhile but then it will return eventually. Those bearings are inherently noisy after awhile.

If you don't like the noise, get rid of the car and get an automatic. All MT's make various amount of driveline noise. Some are louder than others.

I've had my 08 6mt for about 2 months with the usual throw out bearing noise.. However, I've noticed the transmission is whining in 1st through 4th .. Very loud in first.. Also the rattling gets louder when I come to a stop after driving but eventually gets back to "normal".. I have 70k on it and no warranty .. If I was to really need a new transmission not under warranty would I be completely screwed? Not trying to drop 6gs for a new tranny.

Also do 350zs and g35s have the same tranny? .. Thanks

Start with a trans fluid change. Put some MT85 in there. That quieted my whine down quite a bit.

Easy is relative. Look up the DIY for doing the mt trans. Tricky part is forcing the fluid back in. You'll need some sort of pump.
