Service Engine Light
Service Engine Light
My 'service engine soon' light recently turned on. It remains on(doesn't blink) when the car is on. Anyone know what the problem may be? Would it be covered under warranty?
A "Service Engine Soon" light doesn't have anything in the world to do with regular maintenance.
First thing to do is check and ensure that your gas cap is on tightly. Next, since by your post I'm presuming you don't own an OBD II diagnostic tool, drive to the nearest auto parts store than will read the diagnostic code for free. I don't know your location, but most Auto Zone's do. Write down the code(s) it tells you. Then you will know what system is having a malfunction and can take it to the dealership (if that's necessary) with a little bit of information as to what the issue is.
Presuming that the malfunction has nothing to do with any mods you've made, then yes, it should be diagnosed and repaired under warranty.

Ok. The gas cap is definitely on tight but I will probably take it to an auto zone soon to have it diagnosed. Have you guys ever had this problem? If I brought it to the dealer would the dealer charge me for the diagnostic?
OK, the SES light could literally be hundreds of different things. Hence why you need to read the code to tell what it means. Once you know which code it is giving you, you can look it up and have some idea of what's wrong. Again, if you haven't made any mods to your car that are causing the code (for example installing HFC and getting a code relating to emissions) then the dealership will also read the code and repair the issue for free under your warranty. Yes lots of people have gotten different codes but it's not relevant to you unless you know what yours is first. Stop typing and head toward Auto Zone.
