Due for an oil change/need advice

Hello,
I have a 2010 G37S and is due for an oil change. I called a Nissan Dealers since it is nearby and they recommended me to get Mobile 1 and once I have Mobile 1 that I can change it at 6000 mile intervals. I just need to come in and change the filter at around 3000 miles or midpoint before I reach the 6000 mile mark. Does this sound correct with Mobile 1 or synthetic oil? I dont know if I should use the other Eysther?? oil which is more costly than mobile 1. They are charging me around 140. Does this sound right or any recommendations. Please give a newbie some advice.

thanks

$140 sounds little high for oil change with Mobile1.
I used Ester oil around $85 at infiniti dealership.

By the way, Can I take my vehicle to like another oil changing place such as a Midas, firestone,Sears, or anything typical to these type of places besides an Infiniti or nissan dealer and expect them to do a good job?

I would search the forums. There's lots of good oil threads. Here's my take:

1. Change the oil every 3750 on Schedule 1* driving, especially early in your car's service life. If you want to experiment with longer drains later on, then you'll need to get a used oil analysis to make sure the oil you choose is protecting your engine well.

2. PureOne filters are plenty good.

3. Nissan Ester oil is overpriced and shows poorly in used oil analysis. Some of the best UOAs I have seen in the G37 come from Pennzoil Platinum and Eneos.

* Unless you do nearly 100% highway driving, you are on Schedule 1.

of course you can take your car to another reputable shop. why not? just find a good independent garage and keep all your records well documented. record keeping is very easy, and may be required for warranty purposes.

i only ever take my vehicles to a dealer for warranty work. why pay the high hourly chargeout for routine service work? it doesn't make sense.

Just last week my dealer sent me an email for a $9.95 oil change. It also included a free wash/vacuum and license plate cover to comply with new NC laws regarding license plate frames not covering the state name.

Anyway, the coupon does not say oil filter included so I'll find out tomorrow as I am scheduled to get my oil changed at the dealer.

If you are going to change your oil every 3750 miles you can get away with most any quality oil. If you want to go longer you need to get a better quality synthetic or blend.

Saying that, I would do some research before you put Mobil 1 into your engine. It has not done very well in this engine. I had two UOAs done with Mobil1 and like many others the results were less than stellar. I settled on Pennzoil Ultra and have had good results.

$140 sounds ridiculous for Mobil1. Where do you live? You can have your oil changed any where you want. Just keep your receipts.

I currently live in Kansas but about to move to San Diego in the next week so I need to change it.So Penzoil Ultra... I will most probably get that because I am not going to spend 140 just to get my oil changed. Thanks for the advice

Ticking Sound? Is that good or just normal? And where can I get Motul oil? like from an auto store or any department store like walmart or sears? I have a 2002 mitsubishi galant where I would just change the oil at the given time with any oil and had no problems, but if I'm wasting over 37 G's on a car I want to make sure I take care of my baby. Im changing it on Monday so still have time to see what everyone has to say which is good.

Thanks Everyone.

I switched to Pennzoil Ultra and had a good oil analysis result as well. I changed at 4,000 miles and Blackstone recommended going longer. I live in Dallas (100 degrees) and drive hard, so that was good news.

with the g37 vvel, not any oil will do. There is a tsb for the ticking noise caused by the vvel. in the manual it says to use ester based oils. do a little searching around, it was a big discussion awhile back.

Motul is a higher class of syn. oil. Mobil 1 is a class 4, while Motul, Amsoil and etc are class 5.

I purchase my Motul from my local Nissan dealer. Not many dealers carry it, but it can be purchased online. it does cost quit a bit, but my dealer sell it cheap; like 42.00 for 5 liter jug

It actually says to use "Nissan Ester Oil",not just ester based oil. And it appears that their oil is not ester based.
