Manully shifting the 5AT

The issue that bugs me most is I can't seem to pull a quick shift from 1st to 2nd if I'm anywhere above 4000 RPM. I just installed grounding wires hoping to address this, but to no avail.

Observations:
1-2: Will transition quickly to 2nd if performed before 4000 RPM under heavy acceleration... typically right around 3500 (earlier than I'd prefer most of the time.
1-2: If performed after 4000 RPM will move into 2nd with a weird delayed revving upshift... not a direct switch from 1st to 2nd (gets worse the higher the RPM)
2-3: Always a quick shift (sometimes clunky though) into 3rd when performed above 3000 RPM with heavy acceleration.
2-3: Very slow lunging shift into 3rd when performed at lower RPM or without significant throttle applied
3-4 & 4-5 seem to be a quick transition when performed regardless...

I'd really like an immediate transition into 2nd when up-shifting in the 6000-7000 RPM range, but it's always a lagging, awkward revving sort of transition (no sure how else to explain it) when I get anywhere above 4000.

Anybody had this issue with shifting from 1st to 2nd? From what I've read, it seems everybody has different impressions of the AT, and shift times vary from car to car... why is this if we're all running the same ECU?

Is the 1st to 2nd shift issue something that could be address with a ECU upgrade from the dealer. Any sort of mod (Cobb, Hypertech) that would address this?

same happens with the 7AT in manual mode. annoying having to time your shift so you hit it at 6500 rpms so it will shift at 7200 or something close to that.

Thanks! Haven't heard of this... found this weak DIY at Nicoclub:

5AT - Transgo Valve Body Shift Kit - DIY : G35 and G37 General Discussions

Looks intimidating to say the least... did you DIY or pay for install? How much was install if you did?

I searched the GTM website, and they have two options, and both are listed under 2008 G37 as well as 2010 G37:

Transgo Kit - $285
http://www.gtmotorsports.com/product...cat=262&page=2

GTM Installed Kit (send them your valve body) - $847

you can buy the same shift kit from Summit for quite a bit less than GTM

TransGo Performance RE5R05A-HD2 - TransGo Performance Shift Kits - Overview - SummitRacing.com

as far as the 7AT, I don't think TransGo has done as kit for it but i may be wrong. Better contact GTM and see if they have anything for the 7AT.

^ lol he already got BBGK.

... Get a tune to help with the throttle response.

Secondly, you have to remember that your drive and A/T as opposed to and M/T. Also, the G A/T does not have a dual clutch system so it's never going to shift perfectly IMH. With and M/T you just release the clutch and good to go.

I am curious though about the shift kits available for the 5A/T.

Sounds like the valve body upgrade gives the transmission the ability to shift much more like an SMG or dual clutch though... not nearly as refined, but much more spirited than we have now.

I don't know of any good tuners in Seattle... I was considering a hypertech to fix the throttle response.

Anybody know if Infiniti can use TransGo mod to void a warranty? Can they even tell?

I have a grounding kit... and I noticed very little during upshifts, while I think downshifts were improved a bit more.

All in all, I don't think there is a substitute for this valve body upgrade... now I just have to decide whether to do it myself or pay a shop $500.
