IDK, CodeG, I find the car thinks better than me. It usually reacts as if it's reading my mind: when I get of the gas and want it to slow down, it does; when I get off the gas and want it to continue at speed, it does. this and other characteristics makes me love the G...it's a pleasure driving it!

Ged1067; I respect your years contributing to our US society, I don't know if you served in the Armed Forces, if you did God Bless You, if you didn't God Bless You anyway. I also respect your comments on this thread, but the gripping going on here is concerning the comparison to the previous G - 2007 mostly compared to the new G 2010 with the 7 spd tranny. For those with MTs its apples to pears, but although others (Gugarci) have mentioned to drive using the Manual mode or DS mode, we hear ya. But the fact seems to remain from all the input here, that this 7 spd Auto Tranny does not perform as it should. This G 37 is in a Personal Performance Sports Sedan category. It should drive like that in any Mode, in any gear....

There is lagging, and hesitation. Drive an 07 - you will "feel" the difference Immediately..... If you haven't and you have come from other cars with auto trannys with overdrive[I'm 58 years old, and have driven many many cars as "field man in my profession"], it generally will feel the same: that "untorquey" feeling in a lost overdrive open gear as you coast at 45, 50, 55 mph. If you punch the throttle it will downshift BUT it lags doing it....The 07 had NONE of that.

You're probably right...I just don't know and this is the best I've had. It's my first sports car and I guess I'm a late bloomer.

As for Army...82nd Airborne...

I drove an 08 xS for about a year before I got my 09 and frankly both gearboxes to me felt the same. Although the 7 speed has more of a rough downshift feeling when coming to a stop. But either my car has smooth-en out, 17K, or I got use to it.

Also my wife, who drives this car on the rare occasion, has never ever complained once about the gearbox.

Wives rarely do. Mine said the same thing. But my wife drives to get to point B from point a, If you know what I mean... She DID notice the difference from my 07 G35X though, but not ranting like me....I'll stop soon, but I am on a mission, if you will, to get Infiniti to pay attention to these remarks. All the best - Happy Motoring. And God Bless the 82nd Airborne Vet. If it weren't for his generation we'd be speaking German right now.......probably talking about our Bimmers, Ha ha...Betcha he knows how to say: Marine Corps unlike other people in wrong places.

Ive got the tranny lag issues aswell. I was at my dealer today and they said it was all ok, but i still feel that it lags, clunks and shifts funky. He told me to keep a eye on it and gave me infinitis # to call just incase. I have over 3k miles, was in for my 1st oil change but have been having the tranny issues from day 1

This really sucks! because I'm looking at getting a G37x sedan and they only come with the 7spd auto tranny! Best of wishes for those of you trying to get this problem resolved and I will be doing a test drive of one soon... Hopefully this problem is fixed before I purchase my vehicle!

Why hasn't anyone responded to this question? The GT-R is a 7 spd too! And it had alot of tranny problems too!

The GT-R has a 6-speed dual-clutch tranny. Not a 7-speed. To-date, I have not read anything indicating that the transmissions are "the same." Maybe someone else has.

From what I remember reading in car magazines, there were many early complaints that the throttle response off the line for the 5AT was too jumpy and aggressive. When I drove the loaner G35x from the dealership I noticed this too. There was a TSB to reflash the ECM to scale it back a bit, so I wouldn't be too harsh on Infiniti for this issue.

Dammed if you do, dammed if you don't.

Back on topic, I have been noticing this lag more often, but now that I finally reached 1200 mile mark I've switched my driving style to aggressive. Call me crazy, but I kind of like the "slingshot" effect when you punch it at 40mph and it just roars and shoots off.

Still miss my 6MT though... :-(

voledan: You can call me crazy too...... I've hit over 1k miles now as well. IT DOES seem better, more responsive, a bit less gear hunting sensation. Maybe EXIT9 and others here including yourself recommending that we "punch it" were right.. I Gotta think that is the chang together with the "learning Curve" of the ECU/Drivetrain. Folks, don't get me wrong, I AM PLEASED BY THIS. The Tranny is still a little quiry, with some jerky gear hunting (even while coasting) at 35-40 mph, but it is better, more driveability, more like the 07 that I had. I do notice this one thing: at first, at 55-65 mph, the RPMs would be in the 1800 range, now recently, I see its more like 2200 RPMs, thus when I set on It.... I felt more resposnsiveness and less hesitation in the downshifting... Thanks agian for all the feedback. I'm still going to keep my eye on this. Oh Yeah,,,, driving in DS mode DID help toward a better experience, and as noted above about the improvement, felt in D mode as well.

And I understand the dealer can "undo" the reflash for those who want it, at least on the G35s.

I'll be checking this out once I'm past the break in and post my experience.

Some said put her in DS. Maybe de-activate the nanny, too?

Glad you're starting to notice some improvement. I've pretty much just grown accustomed to the 7spd's quirks. I've got almost 17k on ours and although I miss the very decisive 5spd on our 07, I do feel the 7spd is a decent transmission for the G. I do have a feeling Infiniti felt the need to get as many gears in their ATs as soon as possible since Lexus already had 8 spds in some of their vehicles and they've always gotten better mpgs than similar Infiniti vehicles.
Since it was pretty common knowledge that Gs were getting worse mpg than competitng vehicles, Infiniti may have rushed the 7AT into the G without fully tweaking the software (and possibly hardware too).

About the only real dissapointment I now have w/ the 7AT is the fact that they don't seem to have the shift-hunting and lag issues handled as well as they should since this transmission has now been around awhile.
Most TSBs seem to come out pretty quick so I'm thinking it's more than a software "tweak".

I still love driving the car and feel that it's a also a learning commitment from the driver to fully enjoy this car. It probably should'nt require as much "learning" but I don't mind too much.

I'll say it 'til I'm blue, they'd damn well better fix the paint issue too!

Hopefully, the tranny will work its way up to tolerable as mine did with more miles. There are days that it reverts back to its old behaviour but it doesn't happen as frequently as the miles pour on. Don't get me wrong it should be way better but I'll take the new behaviour any day compared to when it was brand new.
